Deadmau5 has taken to his Facebook page to slate Madonna after she made comments seemingly related to drug taking while onstage at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami on Saturday (March 24).

When introducing Avicci, the 'MDNA' artist asked the crowd, 'How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?', using Stateside slang for the drug MDMA, causing electronic artist Deadmau5 to call her a "****ing idiot". He wrote:

very classy there Madonna… such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. quite the f'n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! ****ing cant smack my head hard enough right now.

He continued: "I can appriciate [sic] her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE **** WAS THAT? That's your big contribution to EDM? Thats your big message to ultra attendies [sic]? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? **** off you ****ing IDIOT. ****."

The Canadian house musician, real name Joel Thomas Zimmerman, later went on to clarify his points on his blog at Deadmau5.tumblr.com. He wrote: "My last rant has yielded some interesting points and arguments from both camps no doubt, but i should at least be clear on where i stand with advocacy."

He added: "I smoke cigarettes. yeah, it's ****ty i know, and its a personal problem that i struggle with… I drink a little bit too, which im sure has killed more people than double the combined amount of overdoses on any recreational drug you can name…. so, i try to make an effort as not to blatantly condone it in situations where the youngins are around. and trust me, the mau5 horde has plenty of little ones… So, i dont see the dire need to be a constant dick**** and stamp my vices all over my media outlets. Sometimes it happens, but, of course, my intent isnt to make any look cool or desireable [sic]."

'MDNA' was released today. NME broadly liked 'MDNA', with reviewer Priya Elan giving the album 7/10 and describing it "as a ridiculously enjoyable romp, but not for the bits that were supposed to be fun."

If it's true that she's saying things like this then it's incredibly irresponsible :/

God she should just retire and leave everyone alone.

I dont think it was very good to name her album after an illegal substance, especiallly as she has always been such an advocate for healthy living.

Madonna refuted his criticism, however, by posting a picture of herself wearing Minnie Mouse ears and writing: "From one mouse to another, I don't support drug use and I never have. I was referring to the song 'Have You Seen Molly?', written by my friend Cedric Gervais who I almost worked with on my album."

The pair have since seemingly settled their differences, with the producer claiming that he respected the singer for "clearing it up personally".

I'm not trying to downplay what Madonna has said here, but other artists have done much worse recently -glares at Rihanna-
