View Full Version : Should Serious Debates and News Stories be unmerged?
I personally don't care if the move to merge them was made and thats that... I wasn't 'active' when the decision was made.
I personally like the crazy news articles and they provide a little insight into the lighthearted going's on in the world and I don't want to have to just read the serious threads about how horrible the world is.
Yet when these 'lighthearted' threads get made people are always up in the OP's grill with 'oh this isn't very serious' etc. etc. I've seen it plenty of times now. Either deal with the fact that other 'news stories' get posted in the 'Serious Debate & News Stories' sub-section or lets have something done about it.

Yes, once a news story becomes a debate it can easily be moved, news stories are starting to get posted in general chat

Does it really matter that much?
Thing is, I see about 3/4 of the threads in this section being non-serious debates.

You tell those who reply saying 'this isn't very serious' that :hmph:

I think Prime Minister Nathan should do something about it :idc:
..you Mods should sort it out in Towers..you're the ones who have to move threads around

It should be unmerged. All those silly poems that end up there aren't serious and sometimes have no idea what they're even about.
Is this thread a serious debate Marc?
It's serious in my heart.

I think there should be 'Serious Debates' and then just a forum called 'News', where any type of news stories that aren't to do with music, films etc (that have other forums) could go. As Nathan said any story that turns into a debate could easily be moved.
I also don't see the point in General Chat and Chat & Games (as in both of them existing) as they're near enough the same, so General Chat should go.

I think if they are separated, then maybe a little more leeway should be allowed in the serious debate section. I've seen threads lose their way because of posts being deleted, and relevant conversations that are not abusive or personal being stopped in their tracks.
In a time of off season for BB, then any thread that has the potential to drag all comers in should be encouraged in my view.
does it really matter that much?
imo no

The lighthearted news stories are currently meant to go in general chat, theres a thread about it at the top of this forum, this is why people get pissed when others post things like 'woman dyes her cat pink' in this section
But yeah, I think they should be unmerged. I dont really see why they were merged in the first place
But the MODs should move them when they see them :hmph: and we don't. We're lazy disgusting people.
I like the crazy news articles  and if a lady dyed her cat pink, I sure would love to read about it.

I think they should be separate. You have to establish whether a news story is serious enough to put in a section that is for serious debates, and if not, place it in general chat. Would it not be easier having the two separate?
Vicky.

well then you could read about it in general chat :hmph:
I do usually move them but havent been on for a while due to work, will have a skim. But yes, everyone but me is a lazy mod. Such a disgrace :bored:
Who gets to determine what is serious or not though...

I would guess that would be up to the OP or a moderator (if the story was moved). If News stories was separate then you wouldn't have that problem.

I just looked through the first 2 pages and see no silly/non-serious news stories :suspect:
and where did you get that picture of meh?

I don't think MODs should have that power though, we can't deem what is serious in the world of news. I mean we're amazing and everything, but we're not capable of shaping people's opinions on what is serious or not.

That is why there would be no need for anyone to move anything if there was a separate section. ALL news stories would be in the same section, serious or not.
It's as if we've come to a conclusion.
Well serious stories are just those like murders, riots, disasters, political topics, things you would actually have a serious debate or reaction to, which you wouldn't with joke stories which only really serve to amuse
But eating wee-eggs is serious..

Not all news stories are serious, so I could never understand news stories and serious debates being merged. There are so many places here to discuss trivia and so few places to discuss something serious, I think that serious debates should stand on its own.

The News Stories section still appears under general chat on the main forum page (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forums/index.php) so that could be a bit confusing for some people tbh.
