Channel 5 can today announce that they have signed a new two-year deal with Initial, an Endemol company, for exclusive rights to broadcast Big Brother until the end of 2014.

The series has proven to be huge ratings hit for the channel and a firm favourite with reality TV fans. Since Big Brother’s launch on Channel 5 in 2011, five million new viewers have come to the Channel 5 family.
The launch show of Celebrity Big Brother in August 2011 was the most popular commissioned show in the channel’s 15-year history. Celebrity Big Brother has averaged three million viewers during its two runs.
While Celebrity Big Brother was on air (2011 & 2012 series), Channel 5 was the most popular commercial channel amongst young people across the 9.00pm - 11.00pm slot. .
The first ‘classic’ series of public Big Brother (September 2011) averaged 1.7m over its 10-week run, with viewing to the 9-11pm slot increasing by 54% amongst 16-34 year olds.
In addition, during the traditional summer run of Big Brother this year, Channel 5 will also be airing a second celebrity series of 2012 following the ‘classic’ series. Brian Dowling will be returning to present the main live show.
Big Brother’s spin-off show ‘Bit On the Side’ will also be returning with host Emma Willis. TV’s most iconic voiceover artist Marcus Bentley will also be returning to report on the housemates’ antics!
Internationally 25 series of Big Brother were broadcast in 87 countries in 2011 and the format continues to be a breakout hit in the major markets including the USA, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Latin America and in Central and Eastern Europe.
Jeff Ford, Director of Programmes, Channel 5 said: “We’re hugely excited to have secured the return of Big Brother for Channel 5 which will continue to form a key part our programming schedule. The show so far has captivated the energy and vibrancy of the channel and we are looking forward to continuing this successful relationship.”
Nick Samwell-Smith, Creative Director of Initial comments: "We are delighted with the success of Big Brother on Channel 5. The show continues to thrive and I'm thrilled to be renewing our partnership with the channel for another two years."
Channel 5’s Head of Factual Entertainment, Steve Gowans, will oversee the new series of Big Brother.
The series will continue to be filmed in its original home of Elstree Film Studios, produced by Endemol UK production arm Initial.

:amazed:
so long as the swines don't scrap normal BB in favour of Celeb, that would alienate a lot of people.
At least 2 more normal series after this one then hopefully, good stuff
Brian Dowling will be returning to present the main live show

So BB will definitely be around for at least 4 years after Channel 4 axed it, despite it looking like it was gone for good when the negotiations broke off.

It's odd - I should be dancing and feeling like something amazing has happened, and telling all my friends and just feeling brilliant for the next 3 days about this news like I did every other time Endemol signed a contract for BB.
..But I don't care, because they'll probably have 6 Celebrity Series and 2 Normal series in those two years anyway - so they can go and ****** if they think that's something worth celebrating.

It's only ever been one series a year, so threat those extra CBBs (which are only confirmed for this year) as bonus half BBs.

*So* this. Can't say it any louder that there is no losing here, we get our regular season and additional "celeb" coverage. If it's too much for some to have a second celeb season, pretend it's not on for that month and tune back in for January's. :joker:

Oh I know that, and I'm not saying there should be more BB's - one BB a year is fine and always has been.
But I'm fed up with them shoving CBB in our faces, even when normal BB is on they have to constantly mention CBB and bring Celebrities onto it now too - it's just a joke, it feels like Big Brother is becoming a spin off or something, to Celebrity Big Brother and the news that CBB10 will be with us in August is just too much tbh.
Less is more, they're getting abit too cocky with it all now - and I sincerely hope CBB10's ratings are a complete fail - because it'll teach them to stop overkilling it.

Good news, I can audition!
It's difficult to say whether more CBB's are a good thing or not though, it's a tricky one. On one hand I'd always welcome anymore editions of BB during a year, but on another the seemingly constant undying need for Celebrity Big Brother to be on air worries me, as I think that eventually the main (better) series will be axed, and we'll just be left with CBB. Not to mention the fact that the main series has once again been shortened in order to accommodate this extra CBB.
Happy days overall though I suppose.

Well Least Everyone Is Happy It's Here :)
Just pray to jebus that they fix some of the problems.
If they do i won't mind two CBB'S a year, might just be the best thing they do (If they fix the show up a bit)
Just wished they could reverse Brian's and Emma's Contracts.
Brian is a cool dude and the 2nd best housemate ever in my books but I don't think he is that good of a presenter.
I hate to mention it but livefeed is needed.
Not for me but to satisfy the loyal fans from the start & Also for buzz purposes.
It could be easily solved by doing online stream and charging.
I hope this year does improve.
I want to audition for bb15 in 2014.
P.S: new titles, eye, house and tasks would be somewhat appreciated haha :P
LONG LIVE BB :)

Happy days overall though I suppose.
It fills 140 hours a year with 1.5 million viewers including lots of 16-34s and trends every episode, hopefully their undying need for CBB and the fact that CBB can't run for that long without three or four series per year will make them keep it as it's as close to a 3rd CBB a year as you can get.

Brian does a presentable clinical job of presenting and that's the problem "No personality worth speaking of" Just more old hat boring camp style of presenting.
Emma would do a far better job. However someone like Emma is needed for the spin off show which is much much harder to maintain than the brief appearances of the presenter in the main show.....
