View Full Version : US State Wants School Ban For Saggy Trousers

Pupils in the US state of Tennessee may once have been told to pull their socks up, but now it is their low-slung trousers that need to be raised.
State MPs have passed a bill that prohibits students from showing underwear or body parts in an indecent manner.
Unlike a recent bill that failed, enforcement does not require a ruler - to measure how low someone's trousers are sitting - or carry penalties of up to £157 and community service.
However, it does allow Tennessee's school districts to decide punishments for those with saggy trousers and clothes that show too much skin on school property.
Asked about the proposed law, student Trina Sanders said: "Everybody should dress how they wanna dress, it's a free country."
But schoolmate Aisha Williams added: "Then again... we don't wanna see your underwear."
The bill passed overwhelmingly in the state's senate and house of representatives, and now requires the governor's signature.
If approved, the law would take effect on July 1.
The fashion craze, made popular by hip hop artists, originated in US prisons where inmates had their belts taken away so they could not be used as weapons or suicide aids. The claim that the look came from prison inmates signalling their sexual availability is believed to be urban legend.
 Amazing.
I never understood why guys wore they're trousers low and showed their boxers?

I think they're stupid looking too, but I'm against the banning of any fashion trends. I think it's ridiculous. No one should be dictating what you can or cannot wear. It's not something they should be trying to control.

That's true on one hand but on the the other they're going to school with their underwear showing. I don't think that should be allowed. They can still wear the same pants, just not wear them pulled down.
I really hate it! I was in Reading with my grandma once and she pulled this boys trousers down

Is a bit of underwear really offending anybody though? They're still as covered up as they would be otherwise.

They're in school, they shouldn't be walking around with their pants pulled down, it's stupid and it's disrespectful tbh. It'd be the same as if a new trend was girls wearing shirts but leaving them open so you can see their bra.

I was waiting for those responses
But you know what I mean though, that wouldn't be allowed in school

The same thing is going on at my school
(its not a law though, it's just a school policy, and the punishment is only being shouted at lol)

I dunno. I don't see showing boxers and showing bra as the same thing. Maybe because there's nothing sexual about the former.

Why not? They're both underwear, because you're attracted to girls is probably why
I just don't think kids should be showing off their underwear in school and I don't see why it's an issue to expect them to pull their pants up while their there.

It should be banned on the pure fact it looks ridiculous.
Would any girls really consider it a turn on to see a guy's boxers though  they're a lot less revealing than a bra is, especially when they're really baggy boxers like in the pic

Maybe not but do you think it's too much to ask, to expect them to pull their ****ing pants up while in school though? You wouldn't be allowed walk around with your pants down when you're going to work so why should you be when you're going to school?

Eh I guess not  I don't think it's as big an issue outside of America in countries with school uniform though, but having kids just wearing whatever they want probably means its more prevalent

Yes... ban them. You're saving them from themselves because in ten years, they're going to look back on photos of themselves and realise they look like twats.

I don't believe in dress codes. People should be able to wear whatever they want, or nothing at all. I think the sagging look is ugly, but if someone wants to look like that, it's their choice.

Yes, but pictures were boys blatantly taking the piss. Saggy trousers never go down that low, not unless you make them.
