Five people have been charged with intentional injury after a teenage boy sold his kidney to buy Apple products.
The 17-year-old, who is from southern China and identified only by his surname Wang, sold the kidney last year in order to buy an iPhone and an iPad.
According to The Mirror, Wang's surgeon and four other unnamed defendants - who are all understood to have helped arrange or carry out the transplant - have been charged.
One of the defendants was reportedly paid £22,000 ($35,000) to make arrangements for the transplant. The rest, aside from Wang's share, was divided between the surgeon, the three other defendants and other unnamed medical staff.
Wang was paid just £2,000 ($3,000) for the kidney, and is now suffering from renal deficiency.
After purchasing the Apple products, Wang's mother asked how he paid for them, at which point he admitted to selling a kidney.
