How you feel about the monarchy?....
Love them or loathe them...Figurehead or tourist attraction?
Was reading this article and wondered who cares about the royals...and why?....

Well despite being funded by the tax payer, they generate tourism and help the economy a lot, so they're not bad

I'm not a royalist by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't mind the fact that we still have a royal family. I like all the extra bank holidays we get because of them and some of the tourist attractions they have provided are steeped in history....buildings, art, chelsea flower show... etc

I don't support the idea of a monarchy, but there's no denying the unbelievable amount of tourism they bring for this country, we'd be a lot worse off without them. And this, sadly, is something that I think quite a few anti-royalists seem to forget (my dad being one of them), and they point blank state that we wouldn't struggle financially without them...well I for one think we would.
I also quite like that it's part of history, and a part of history I don't think we should start messing around with. And of course, days off are always welcome.

Off with their heads. Waste of time, space and money. Lets re-invent ourselves with a modern, progressive constitution that treats the least of us, like the best of us.
A time to become a republic, and let our days as a monarchy be consigned to history.

Scotland
wants in 2014-15
to become a Republic.
And that would be Fun.

That just about sums it up for me as well. I'm no Royalist at all but I still feel very much the same as what you've said here.
Thoughts on how far down the royal line things go - that's a different story!
I am not a Royalist at all.. but they seem like an alright bunch, especially Harry
I'm quite looking forward to the Jubilee too. :)

We would probably make more from tourism if we canceled the monarchy, and opened their history up to the public.
There is no evidence to back up your "we'd be worse off without them" point. and just stating that "you think we would" doesn't make it true either.
It's impossible to lose our history, but it's implausible to stick with an outdated system based on birth rights and privilege. Especially now as people are beginning to realise that as the 1%, we are being shafted.
Don't care, but it's another excuse for people to have parties so I'm looking forward to it
