Two brainless yobs risk their lives by darting across a level crossing seconds before a train passes — as a BBC team film a programme about railway safety.

Cameras caught the irresponsible pair cheering and waving their arms in the air as they dodged the barriers in North Sheen, South West London.

The Beeb crew were filming with campaigner Tina Hughes, whose daughter Olivia Bazlinton, 14, was killed on a railway crossing seven years ago.

Network Rail was fined £1million last month for health and safety breaches over the deaths of Olivia and pal Charlotte Thompson, 13, in Elsenham, Essex.

Idiots. :bored: Obviously there are people out there with a disregard for their, and others, safety, and we hear of accidents on a seemingly regular basis. Do you think it's time safety at level crossings was reviewed? Does something need to be done to stop this sort of thing from happening?

No I don't think safety levels need to be reviewed because some people are morons.

Those kids are just idiots. I think any person in their right mind would know it was extremely dangerous and WILL kill you. Retarded

Sooner or later the realisation that they're morons will hit them like a train.

As will death.

Such idiots, kids that may have seen them would probably think this was an ok thing to do,do people never think of others,I feel the same about road crossings when people dash across before the beeper goes off and there are kids there who probably would follow them if they were not with a parent.

In fairness the girls they're making a documentary about were killed by a train after waiting at the level crossing, and then the barriers went up to say it was safe to cross when they shouldn't have and when there was still a train coming. So if something like that was able to happen maybe they should review the safety measures.

You can't account for morons even if you introduced a thousand more safety regulations. Let evolution take care of these dolts.

I don't believe kids would be doing this, if there were venues where they could go to learn an instrument, or a pitch they could play football on, or a club they could play table tennis/fussbal/snooker at.

I don't actually see that much of a problem, they got across before the barriers had come down

I agree they are idiots, and if they have no regard for their life then that's their problem, but if there were an accident, it's not just them who's affected is it?

Train drivers can be traumatized by accidents, whether caused through someones own fault, or not. Automobile accidents, broken down and abandoned vehicles, and members of the public taking their own lives have all contributed to unfortunate incidents.

"There were 8,200 level crossings in the UK in 2005, of which, 1,600 were road crossings. This number is gradually being reduced as the risk of accident at level crossings is considered high."

The director of the UK Railway Inspectorate has previously commented that "the use of level crossings contributes the greatest potential for catastrophic risk on the railways.

I know I've said it before... but you can't legislate for idiots because idiots are so ingenious. The most dangerous words in the world, according to the Darwin Awards are "Hey guys, watch this!". These boys seem to prove that particular point.
