Jack Nicholson and it's not even close. Ledger's performance was decent, but Nicolson's Joker is the greatest villain the the history of film

Nicholson's personality fit what the Joker is suppose to be to a tee. Most of what I don't like about Ledger's performance is mostly down to Nolan changing what the Joker character is like from the other movies and comics. The Joker is suppose to be over the top and crazy.
I like Nolan's other work, but his Batman movies are terrible. He has missed the mark in about every case with them, in my opinion.

That's a good question... although a really hard one to call. Jack Nicholson is just devilish... perfect for the role. But I loved Heath Ledger's edge of madness he brought to it. Loved them both. The only way to split them would be to have a Harry Hill style fight.

You're right... especially about the bad joke!
He obviously had so much more we hadn't seen yet, I think he would have matured as an actor generally and it is sad we'll never get to see it. I loved the say he made the character teeter on the edge of madness. Not everyone can do that without looking comical.

Yes it was funny... but it was still kind of menacing.

I do love Jack but I thought Heath's was more genuinely insane.

Nicholson's joker isn't even the best Nicholson villain in the history of film. Have you even seen The Shining?
