View Full Version : Do you class this as stealing?

Kate!

I often like to "sample" stuff before I buy it, so if it's something like pic n mix, or loose grapes, I will eat one (or two...but not three because that would take the piss) to see if they are worthy.

I've seen other people doing it, but I always feel like I'm gonna get told off, doesn't stop me doing it though.

Do you do this? Would you? Or not?

Niamh.

Yeah that is stealing and a bit trampish as well, never seen anyone do it myself

Unless you're given permission to do so then I'd say technically it is stealing.

Personally I wouldn't do it myself just for the simple fact that I think it'd make me look odd eating food from a stand, and it's a bit unhygienic in a way.

No,I don't see it as stealing,I wouldn't do it tohugh becasue I don't wanat to buy things others hands may have been on or in and also I wouldn't expect others to buy things I had touched in any way.

Supermarkets steal from their customers every day almost by charging more for things they have already bought in at a lower price so I have no sympathy for them whatsoever.

what do you expect them to do? they need to make a profit, else it's not worth bringing it in

Sorry I do not agree, I know of a firm that bought in a batch of sweets,I know this because a student friend works there part time while at Uni, they didn't sell, the shop got a full refund for the sweets from the supplier, then emptied them out and sold them as bags.
They paid nothing for them in the end and still took money off their customers for them.

If they bought in stock at a certain price, then sell it at its rrp, they are making the desired and set profit, however if then the rrp goes up, if they then sell it at that new rrp, then for me they are making a greater profit from their customers and as far as I am concerned that's stealing, because they will not pay the new increased wholesale price until they need to buy new stock.

It goes on all the time all over,it's called greed.

Who the shopkeeper or Kate?,

Kate definately not, because she is only sampling and it would be nice if big stores allowed a bit of that.
The shop owner for the sweets carry on, it wouldn't be seen as an offence Novo, it goes under the name of business and companies can get away with ripping customers off left, right and centre all the time in that name.

I would like to see a law whereby any goods fully credited to any company, cannot be then sold for profit to the public,I would also have a rule in business that stock bought at one price that then goes up as to a new rrp, can only be increased after the existing stock has been sold at the old price.

I don't know Joey..just looking at the number of empty shops in any town..I don't think many shopkeepers are making nearly as much profit as they used to. I saw a documentary once which justified the cost of some products because of stealing. If this happens..the product prices increase..then really you could argue they're stealing from the public

I suppose it is stealing technicially. You are taking something for sale and not paying for it. I would not judge anyone over it though 'cause I have done it myself before. I doubt anyone would take action over someone for eating the odd grape or sweet. I imagine it happens all the time.

I see that point Ammi definately but I don't see where a couple of grapes here or there or a sweet or 2 from pick'n'mix would cause that.
Naturally someone picking up bottles of alcohol or boxes of this or that then walking off and not paying would have an effect on Stores and shops profits.

However when you look at,for example, the 3 for £2 offers or buy one get one free, it shows the profits Stores are making on the items to sell them at that offer price.

The real problem for businesses that are closing in the main, are the higher rents and rates local authorities charge them for being there, local authorities would rather have empty buildings left to decay than slash the rent and rates to help keep them occupied and going.

Do it in Boots all the time with aftershave.

It's funny, because I own the aftershave at home - I just don't like wasting it. The other day though, the manager told me off because you're not allowed to spray Deodorant - just aftershave lol.

They are testers though that are not for sale. They are there for people to use. Some women go in and use all the testers available and give themselves a whole make over before they go out on a night out.

I wonder how many people actually have ever bought an item of clothing from a shop/online, wore it on a night out, and then took/sent it back to the supplier? I know it's not stealing but this thread made me wonder. It's like telling a white lie I suppose? :conf:
