Daybreak to be axed!

ITV is axing Daybreak, it has been reported.

The Mirror has revealed that the breakfast show is being dropped just two years after its £10 million launch.

Bosses apparently plan to return to the GMTV-style look that Daybreak was brought in to replace.

Lorraine Kelly is reportedly lined up to host the new show. Current hosts Kate Garraway and Dan Lobb may still be involved in the new format, which will likely focus on news for the first hour until 7am.

GMTV's Richard Arnold is also believed to be returning as a showbiz reporter.

ITV is said to fear that the programme is still associated with presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, who left the show at the end of last year.

A source told the newspaper: "If anything this shows that GMTV wasn't a failing formula after all and should never have been axed."

An insider added of the new show: "One working title is Lorraine but that's not popular with everyone and may not stay. There are plenty of other possibilities

"It wasn't the name that didn't work out, but the programme itself. All the focus is on getting the show right this time."

ITV admitted in March 2011 that Daybreak had not performed as well as hoped following the launch of the series.

After moving on from the show, Chiles said that he accepted "a lot of blame" for its failure, admitting he was "dead wrong" for it.

This format is so old,Lorraine Kelly gets on my nerves she is such a hypocrite and giggles like a schoolkid,why do they keep wheeling her out,if they are going for a new look at least get some decent presenters,but as long as they dont bring back Fiona Phillips and Eamon Holmes,they might just hold on to it.

It's basically the same show with a tweaked format and maybe some new presenters. Hardly worth bothering to rebrand it. Daybreak was always just a rehash of GMTV for me anyway. A load of celeb/TV gossip with a little bit of actual news thrown in. Hardly worth the money to change it.

I read somewhere it was changing to "Lorraine" which made me laugh. She's barely ever there. Everytime I switch it on there's someone 'filling in'.

and it may even keep that name.
So it just a matter of getting Lorraine
on the Longer AM Shift.


I want them to talk about this on monday

New ITV Daybreak presenters named.
　
Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones will be the new presenters of ITV1’s Daybreak, produced by ITV Studios.

Lorraine, who already presents her successful weekday morning show on the channel, will be joined by fellow broadcaster and presenter Aled Jones on the breakfast sofa as Daybreak’s main presenters.
　
The pair will take up their new roles later this year.

Lorraine Kelly said:

"I'm really looking forward to this challenge and to working with Aled who is a warm, funny and a thoroughly decent bloke and is already a good friend."

Aled Jones said:
