Rather silly of her and at 42 she should have more sense and control.

I don't agree with jail though, I know what she said was wrong, but you cannot imprison somebody for words spoken.

No, but to put somebody in jail for something they said is ridiculous.

I do remember watching this quite some time ago. Anyway, yeah, glad she's behind bars. Some vile bigot who needs to go back to the 1960s. Racism just isn't on in today's society and if it takes locking up for some people to realise, then so be it.

She is not behind bars yet. She still has to be sentenced.

The part I found interesting was this part.

Ms Campbell told the court that Woodhouse was fined following a similar offence on the Docklands Light Railway in December 2008.

Words have caused murder since humans could first speak, so it's not a new concept. But putting somebody in prison for things they say is a bit extremist. I don't have to choose an appropriate punishment for her, she'll spend the rest of her life being punished by society.

I don't agree she should be locked up either. She's allowed her views, however wrong they may be.

Don't get me wrong, everyone's allowed their views, but if it leads to abusing other people and that, lock her up. That's a public order offense.

On the plus side, I like her accent. Typical heavy, thick Cockney/Essex/Sussex style - not one to mess with, agressive and chavvy. Personal favourite of mine, those rougher accents from London and its nearabouts, not the posh, 'tea with the queen' type ones.

she didn't abuse anyone. She offended some people. being offensive and being abusive are very different things.

As vile as she is, she should have the right to be as offensive as she likes. That's freedom of speech.

As far as i can tell she didn't threaten anyone, no one was scared for their life because of her. She didn't do anything to harm anyone other than being offensive.

She should be charged for being drunk and disorderly in public though, that would make more sense. She shouldn't be punished just for expressing her opinion in a non-violent way though.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but if you're going to use that opinion to insult innocent bystanders then you are committing a crime, and rightly so.

No one should have to put up with that kind of outburst, especially when it's fuelled by such discriminatory nonsense.

Don't even know where I stand on this..I suppose someone needed to be made an example of, but the inconsistency is terrible, just because there's video evidence she's probably got a bigger sentence then those people who're charged just through word of mouth

It kind of reminds me of the guy who got jailed for the Muamba abuse on twitter..if you're going to do this to one person, then you're going to have to be consistent, which is impossible. We'd need thousands more jails for people who're just racist/using hate speech alone.

Samuel.

Freedom of speech is only relative. This bitch had no right to say those things. You're sort of going off the point here.. it's as if you are trying to condone racism http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee105/Prometheus364/Emoticons/Expressive%20Emoticons/raised_eyebrow.gif
Maybe jail is a bit harsh but how can you say she has the right to be as offensive as she likes?
Anyway I think she should be fined.
oh and p.s. verbal abuse counts as abuse.

I agree. She did make me laugh but she had no right to call people 'effing sh@theads' (it's incredibly irritating the fact this swear filter's on, to be honest) and the lot. It's stupid the fact that people are actually trying to defend this bitch.

Yeah, but that's still abusive, IMO. Even if you don't agree with the jail term, at least she knows not to do it again. If she was like, 'Go back to your owm countries' or whatever, that woild be all right, although stupid. It's the fact that she went on to swear at people, cussing to high heavens. Anyway, I'm out right now. I'll reply properly when I get home.

I don't agree with it full stop... A warning would have been enough, plus the media attention to make sure she did't do it again tbh.
Its a double standard to make an example of one or two people when you have others seemingly fully entitled to voice their opinion without question....:conf:
