20,000 police officers from England and Wales are to march as they are restricted from striking to protest against cuts and privatisation.
I will be fully supporting the officers on the 10th May 2012

QUOTE:
Ian Pointon, chair of the Kent federation, told his members last week Acpo had "sold us down the river".
He highlighted the "privatisation" in forces such as Surrey and the West Midlands – where private contractors are bidding for roles to investigate crime, detain suspects, disrupt criminal networks and respond to incidents – as the real aim of the government.
Can we please get rid of this government before they ruin country?

I think the coalition Govt should really listen to the police and deal with their concerns, this is not a good thing to be seen happening in the UK at all.
The Police cannot do their jobs undermined and possibly with a hand tied behind their back, this is one of the issues many backbench Conservatives are angry at David Cameron for and he would do well to start a listening exercise, yes yet again, now towards the concerns of the Police.

Seriously if the police are privatised like the NHS is god help everyone, as the greed and corruption will be catastrophic for the future security of this country.

'Among the thousands of police – all of whom have to take a day off to take part –will be Tony Melville, chief constable of the Gloucestershire force, who last month announced he was quitting over the changes to policing.'
Isnt this the same as a strike then really? :S

No, you don't take a day off your annual leave to strike.
The shift towards privatisation is a bit of a worry, not sure how we can trust a police organisation solely concerned with profit
Vicky.

Yeah, but I mean...generally
So many police taking a day off at the same time to 'march' seems pretty much the same as a strike to me.
Either way, someone has to do something about all this. I'm glad the police are standing up for themselves (and us...really)

For how long...
If private security firms bring in a cheaper workforce?
will go the way of the care homes and hospitals, in it purely for the money with no thought for public safety.

Yeah, the Tory government is maintaining the transformation of "not-for-profit" services to "just-for-profit" .....

Exactly! Not to mention it is entirly unworkable, detain suspects?...The law as it stands now has to jump through hoops just to detain some suspects long enough to question them ....
Get them out before they cause some real damage!

The Government is wrong completely to interfere with the Police with reforms they do not want and which the Police say will undermine and cause problems for them.
The Police just need to be given all they need to do their job well and to be supported by Govt not overload them with reforms that cause dismay and even anger from them.
Sometimes it does seem that David Cameron has a death wish as to the next election because as with his NHS reforms and now this backdoor part privatisation of the Police he will find that every little single thing that goes wrong in both those services will rightly or wrongly be laid at the door of his short sighted and badly thought out reforms, none of which were voted for by the elctorate in the 2010 election I may add.
