Judges told to get meaner?

I don't watch this show but apparently the Judges are too nice according to the management and the Press are reporting that they have been told to get meaner to try and win the ratings war vs BGT again...

I don't think that would make a difference, obviously some of the people watching just to piss off Simon Cowell have got bored, or they liked the show and are fed up of it now hence the drop in ratings vs BGT?

I think they veil their criticism rather than just say it strongly. I am sure they will get less positive as the weeks go on and they are down to an act or a couple of acts each.

It is a competitive show clearly but these celebrities are coaches with a team, they clearly respect effort and also talent,also of course unlike in the X Factor, they help the acts play to their strengths with songs they really want to sing,so the acts will be more polished than if they were on the X Factor which by its themed weeks actually does more to bring acts down rather than show them at their best.

I think compared to the novelty acts and crap acts of X Factor that all of the finalists on The Voice deserve varied amount of praise. But because they're all pretty much good singers the judge's need to try and be more imaginative with their comments and find criticisms to make however small. That's what would make them more credible than X Factor where you're either good or bad.

I wasn't keen on The Voice, the singers was awful and shouty, the judges were either boring, smug or annoying, and the contestants was kind of like the last series of X Factor in the sense of I wasn't interested in any of them as people.

Jessie was a bit of a twat to someone on saturdays show, just can't remember who it was. Will was negative towards Ruth aswell.

Not enough though, they need to be honest more often.

I don't mean they're all better but the standard as a whole is higher. They don't have novelty acts and people who can't sing clogging up the places on The Voice. They are all "good", that's the bottom line, whereas on X Factor it varies from ok to absolutely awful.

Tbf though most of the contestants on the voice are very good singers and I think it's refreshing to not have to listen to judges being pricks for the sake of ratings.

..I've only seen a little bit of The Voice..I haven't been avidly following it....
..but I agree with Niamh..it always eventually spoils things for me when the emphasis is on the judges and creating drama around them..rather than on the contestants..after all the judges already have careers but for the contestants this is potentially the most important thing for them in their lives

Wow, jf don't hold back, however I have to say I am the opposite to you on this one, I love The Voice, the acts do seem to have the best pulled out of them, they are not always good but at least they are not singing a song they hate or would never dream of singing by having such a song forced on them like in a themed week.

I don't like the slating acts get on the X Factor by the judges for instance for having to perform a song they likely detest or have never even heard before.

I agree with Jords in that the production needs some re-tuning and made more professional but other than that I love The Voice and I like the attitude overall of the coaches too.They will as the series gets nearer the end I believe expect even more from the acts in order to win the series,without being insulting to them though.

BlackDagger makes a great point too,when he says, ''so go like X Factor at the first signs of rating trouble''.

Yeah me too, I haven't watched BGT at all this year and I don't think I'll watch X Factor either, I'm tired of the same old tricks they pull every year and I do find the bringing in crap act just to laugh at them and take the piss out of them a bit tasteless and cruel.

I agree, everyone can be honest and even critical without being nasty and insulting like sometimes is the case on X Factor for instance.
