I wish he'd do a house tour, or Sid's idea of Emma/Alice doing it.

It's not difficult, their silly slideshow on the large screen where Brian goes "a deluxe swimming pool for our housemates to 'settle down ;)' in" is so pathetic.

Not that important, but I wonder if the large task room is still there.

Perhaps where the bedroom was last year?

Alice's online house tour was amateur rubbish.

Now I've seen more, I can deffo say that this deffo one of the best ever BB houses. It looks really glossy and way more expensive than last years design.

Agree with the BB10 hate. That was woeful, but the BB8 house is as underrated as it's series.

Marsh.
24-05-2012, 11:02 PM
I just don't like how they over-furnish it nowadays, they throw every style and texture into it under the pretence of it being luxurious. It's so cheap that it ends up falling to bits after 3/4 weeks and looks absolutely rank. The more basic houses that left them open space without the need to fill it all up was the best.

So is it just me who thinks the house looks like "Changing rooms" came in and just gave it a lick of paint and thats it?

I hate the fact that i can tell exactly where everything was before...If i walked into that house i would know where everything was.

I wanted it to be gutted and a complete redesign.

I was expected to be wowed but this is the most enderwlemed ive ever been about a BB house.

I agree. I miss the houses that looked like they could have been built in a completely different compound because they didn't resemble the previous year in any way shape or form. It was a way of getting into a new year and starting afresh, but channel 5's so far feels like one big dragged out series.

Obviously, the actual effort (or money) is no longer there.

It does, but it's only ever padded walls these days anyway so may as well use the same ones and just light them a different colour than change them for the sake of making the new colour stronger or having a slightly different style of padding. As long as the chair's different. I like the idea of a black wall with the light changed to a different colour from the multi-colour eye to match the mood like the BB7 living room walls (red before an eviction, green when the wild card goes in or someone wins something).

The so-called "massive changes" coincided with the decline in popularity of the series.

IIRC, Markus Blee was responsible for house design up BB5, after which it was taken over by Patrick Watson ..... :idc:

Having a house full of women in the first week was a massive mistake & the series never recovered.

BB8 was the first series after Jade/Shilpa and the first series to suffer from Channel 4 compliance (the immediate expulsion of Emily at 4 in the morning being the first obvious manifestation of it).

With little live feed BB now is even more compliant. The voyeuristic element (which is the main point of the show) has been diminished.

If we're judging how much the house is revamped by the amount of ratings the show gets why is this one still almost identical?

Conor
25-05-2012, 11:48 AM
tbh the house barely changing is probably more do with the financial crises than ratings or being on 5 anything else. It can't be a coincidence that the house has barely changed since 2009 when money problems were getting worse everywhere. (BB11 is an exception because as C4's last series they obviously put a bit of effort into the design) Overall its probably one of the things that faced cuts as to most people the house doesn't really matter.

Who's judging ?

Who mentioned ratings?

Not me ..... :nono:

I merely pointed out that the period of "massive changes" (sic) to the house coincided with a decline in size of the show's audience - what you infer from that is up to you.

For me, the design of the BB6 and BB7 houses marked a decline in production standards which coincided with radical changes to the format of the show instigated by the promotions of the dreadful Phil Edgar-Jones to Creative Director of the Endemol series in January 2006 and the awful Sharon Powers (from C4) to Executive Producer soon after.

Considering how much time FMs are spending talking about the house, it's obviously a major factor in the viewing experience. The design of each house influences the social dynamics of the HMs, which naturally plays the major part in attracting audiences (or not).

I think the general decline in viewers is simply because most people that watched it early on have grown up and got older. They now probably have better things to do with there time such as kids etc.
It's only core bb fans that have stuck around and for there to be about two million I think thats rather good.

Erm...BB6 and BB7 are two of the greatest series of all time.

IMO, NOT ..... :idc:

Oh, Jesus Christ Omah read my goddamn posts properly. Ratings or whatever the pissing hell you want to call them were brought into the thread by YOU.

IT'S IRRELEVANT. TAKE IT TO ANOTHER THREAD.

We're discussing house designs, not the popularity of a series as a whole.

I love The House! It looks amazing! Let's hope we get some good housemates! I really enjoyed last year! It was very dramatic!

Think I prefer when Omah just sticks to his Katie Price thread.

Tut, tut ..... you just have to get personal, don't you ..... :conf:

It really does seem that everyone has gone way off-topic (which I was accused of) to stick the boot into me ....

Anyway, back to Jordan's comment. I agree, the changes year on year on channel 4 were huge. You couldn't instantly see the same bare structure of the previous year's house.

Seems they've returned to the C4 way of either leaving it until the launch or at least closer to it.

Edit - What am I thinking, you have me on ignore. Nevermind...

Tiny? Or maybe it's just a normal chair that you can't see the back of. You know, because they're yet to put the actual chair in there.

Far fetched I know.

Nope it's not there yet, there is a thin black swivel chair that can be seen in this viedo.

Actually not everything in the house has changed.

I seem to be the only one who recognises the same garden firniture, the pool and the decking around the garden wall.

The the stone wall is on the main door.

Watching that video...the house really reminds me of the BB7 one for some reason. Looks good.

I don't know why though but seeing these pics and videos are making it worse realising there's still no 24/7 live feed this year, like being able to sit up and see the housemates talking on those sofas, in the garden at night etc. Why they can't have an online feed is beyond me.

It's the lit wall around the plasma, I like the new house lit up like that, I hope they light the house up like that every evening rather than just when the housemates have a party like they did last year (especially if they're having less parties like the press release and theme suggest).

That's what I hate about the garden. The white structure with lights on. It's too much, the garden looks very overcrowded and full. I wish they'd just leave them open space without the need to fill every corner with stuff.

Just looking through the official pictures and realised that the kitchen, which everyone was saying was missing from them, is actually in the living room shot behind the sofas on the right

http://www.bbspy.co.uk/images/uploads/bb2012_house06.jpg

Explains why the dining table is by the doors, also behind the sofas.

The kitchen picture was from the press launch, in the official pictures, unless you view the one above in hi-res (http://i2.cdnds.net/12/21/bbhouse_summer2012_livingarea.jpeg) or know what it looks like (we didn't know till the press conference), you can't see it.

I couldn't, not before I saw the kitchen pic from the press launch and recognised the green, but then I hadn't seen the hi-res shots just the small ones on bbspy and bigbrotherxtra in which it just looked like a second seating area to me (and to others judging by everyone asking why there wasn't a picture of the kitchen).

Have the beds ever been that close before? Could be interesting with the traditional late night bedroom whispering, snoring, farting, laughing and pissing about etc. Hopefully with the right mix of personalities, the closeness of those beds will cause plenty of late night arguments.:joker: I can hope.
