View Full Version : Your thoughts on a guy using fake tan?

Sawyer

Ok, here's a funny one for you. I just wondered what people's opinions are on fake tan, and in particular, a guy using fake tan. I'm a straight guy here (not being stereotypical or anything) and have just started using a little bit of fake tan. I feel alot better for it and defiantely alot more confident. But I was curious to know what other people think.

Definately not using it to the point of orange-ness but people have noticed and said I look 'tanned' which is obviously the effect I wanted. But there seems to be a stigma attached to it and in particular, a guy using it.

I hate fake tan full stop (guy, girl or alien). But if you're using it "normally" and not making yourself look abnormally orange then I don't see any harm.

I use fake tan fairly regularly (bronzer at the moment actually). Who cares what other people think, if you feel better for it that's all that matters. I certainly prefer looking ever so slightly tanned (I rarely even go that far) than my normal ill pale look.

There's a misconception that everybody who uses it ends up looking orange. If you're using it right people shouldn't even be able to tell.

Could've sworn I pressed 'post' when I wrote a reply to this thread...

Can't be bothered typing it all again, but in brief - don't comply with or be led into believing stereotypes. They're pointless generalisations with no merit.

All you have to ask is, who came up with this unwritten rule that men can't wear fake tan?

i cant understand why people think a man isnt manly because he wears fake tan. just look @ peter andres body (sorry i dont know how to post pics) and as i said before he wears it infact he advertises it.nowt worse than a very pale pasty looking man or woman in my opinion. i would be very grateful if someone could post a pic of say a tanned peter andre and a pasty pale looking celebrity and see which one we thinks looks the best.

Shallowness is thy name.

There is nothing "wrong" with fake tan, but people are different and like different things, and ideals. I love me some pale skinned beauties over plastic and tanned every day of the week.

Different strokes, for different folks.

Being a nail polish rocking gypsy I have no problem with guys indulging in heavy self imagery. My problem with fake tan though is in the name. Fake. You're covering yourself up and making your skin something it's not so women will look at you and hopefully put stock in a tanned image that isn't even real.

Okay so my nails aren't black in reality either [electric blue for those Saturday nights on the town] but that isn't me trying to cover something up or accentuate a positive I don't have. On the contrary it vastly narrows my choice of women down to those who are as hopelessly drunk and bisexual as I am.

So yeah. Hur hur. GHEYYYYYYYYYY!

Hence why I use bronzer :pipe:

But it's no different to women making their skin something it's not via make-up, and it's barely even close to that extent in most cases, it's just slightly darkening the skin opposed to covering things up (other than the paleness).

I haven't used bronzer/fake tan in a while actually. Don't seem to need it with my hair long.

No contest!

If it makes someone happy and they don't look completely overdone and OTT - makes no difference to me at all. If they wear it and it looks hellish: they look hellish. if they wear it and it's natural looking, which many are these days: good for them.

I wear make up/ lippy, mascara etc because it makes me feel good, makes me look (a goodamn sight better too!) - If guys want to enhance that feeling with a natural looking fake tan (or not!!), it bothers me not a jot.

Speaking at the show’s press launch this week, Brian revealed: “They are changing the look this year.

“They said, ‘You looked really brown.’ So I have been told to be less Essex, more Chelsea.

Well i think it's smarter to use fake tan than to ruin yur skin with a real tan, but i think in general people should just be happy with their natural skin tone.

White is Wonderful and Black is Beautiful. just be happy with what you've got.
