Police are investigating after a human hand was found in the mail at an Ottawa post office, hours after a decomposing foot was sent to Canada's Conservative Party.

Detectives said both packages originated in the city of Montreal, where a dismembered torso was discovered by a janitor in a suitcase in a pile of rubbish.

All three body parts will undergo forensic testing to discover if they came from the same person.

The tests will also reveal whether the person was alive when the parts were severed, according to public broadcaster CBC.

The first package was partly opened by the receptionist at the headquarters of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's party, who called the police after seeing blood stains and becoming overwhelmed by the smell.

A hazardous-material unit was alerted, and when the package was opened a severed foot was found inside.

Police said the package was addressed to the Conservative Party of Canada and not to a specific person. Mr Harper's office is not located at the party headquarters.

Hours later, a second suspicious package was intercepted by Canada Post at a nearby mail sorting facility which contained the human hand.

The police have interviewed post office staff as well as morgues and hospitals in the area.

Immigration minister Jason Kenney told reporters that it was a "completely disgusting criminal act," which was "bizarre and horrifying".

Conservative parliament member Brad Trost said posting the foot was probably someone's "sick idea".

"I don't think any of us are thinking this necessarily has anything to with politics," he said.

Not only was the unidentified victim dismembered, not only were two body parts apparently mailed to political parties in Ottawa, but it has emerged that the killer filmed his crime and posted it on the Internet. The snuff film titled 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick, depicting the dismemberment of an Asian male body and various indignities to the remains, has provoked online debate about its veracity since it was posted last week. Police have confirmed the video depicts the actual crime.

A janitor had stumbled on the victim’s torso Tuesday when investigating a foul smell coming from a suitcase thrown out in an alley behind an apartment in Montreal’s Snowdon neighbourhood. The same day, federal Conservative Party headquarters in Ottawa received a Canada Post parcel containing a human foot, and police discovered a second package containing a hand in an Ottawa postal station. That package was addressed to the Liberal Party of Canada.

Montreal police said in a statement that “concrete elements allow police to believe” that the Ottawa and Montreal incidents are connected, but pathology tests are being conducted for confirmation.

Mr. Magnotta, who has also been known as Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov, has left abundant traces on the Internet. A Toronto native, he had worked in gay porn and as a model, but more recently he attracted attention after being linked to a 2010 online video showing kittens being suffocated with the aid of a vacuum cleaner.

I read in the original story he put kittens in a plastic bag and used the hoover to suffocate them. Progressed on to quite a bit since then. He's obviously one sick bastard.

Suspected killer Luka Magnotta was upset his boyfriend had ended their relationship and was seeing another man before Jun Lin was slain and dismembered, a source told QMI Agency on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Lin, a Chinese national university student who worked as a part-time cashier at a Montreal convenience store.

Montreal police said Lin was last seen May 24 and was reported missing by a friend on May 29.

That friend, a source told TVA -- QMI's French-language TV network -- was Lin's new lover.

The gruesome killing has triggered a global manhunt for 29-year-old Magnotta, a former porn actor who police said they believe has since fled the country.

Montreal police said Magnotta faces charges of first degree murder, indignity to a human body, as well as producing and distributing obscene materials and criminal harassment of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

MONTREAL — A Paris hotel manager told the Montreal Gazette on Saturday that his neighbour, the manager of a bar and restaurant, confirmed to police that Montreal fugitive and suspected killer Luka Rocco Magnotta had a drink at his bar on Thursday.

Sbyibi el Bachir, manager of Hotel Studio des Batignolles in the 17th arrondissement in Paris, said in an interview that Dominique Massonneau, manager of Le Petit Batignolles, told him on Saturday that Magnotta stopped by his moderately-priced cafe — and that Massonneau had reported it to police.

The information could not be independently verified immediately.

A porn actor accused of killing and dismembering a Chinese student in Canada has been extradited from Germany and is expected to be quizzed by police about his victim's missing head.

The international manhunt for Luka Rocco Magnotta ended earlier this month when he was detained by officers in a Berlin internet cafe, while looking up online articles about himself.

The 29-year-old did not fight extradition to his native Canada, where he is suspected of slaying Jun Lin and sending body parts to Canadian political parties and schools.

Mr Jun, 33, was a former lover of Magnotta, who has been dubbed the "Canadian Psycho" and fled Canada on May 26, initially to Paris before boarding a bus to Berlin.

Investigators say he filmed himself on the night of May 24 using a pickaxe to kill his victim, who was studying computer science in Montreal.

The torso was found in a suitcase at a rubbish dump in Montreal outside Magnotta's apartment building.

Canadian justice minister Rob Nicholson said in a statement that Magnotta was removed from Berlin on Monday by a Canadian military plane.

Montreal police commander Ian Lafreniere said after the plane landed: "This is not the end of the investigation.

"We're missing an important part of the investigation which is the head of the body."

Yan Shi of the Concordia Chinese Students Association said the victim's family remains in Montreal, after travelling to Canada from China following the death.

Okay i just rewatched 3 guys 1 hammer and yea, it's a million times worse. the luka magonotta video isn't really that bad because it's mostly just what he does with the body afterwards, he doesn't make his victim suffer at all on the video.

Police have found what appears to be a human head in a park in Montreal and are investigating whether it is of a Chinese student allegedly murdered by a Canadian porn star.

Luka Magnotta is accused of killing and cutting his lover Jun Lin into pieces and then posting the body parts to political parties and schools.

The 33-year-old's head is the only body part that has not yet been accounted for.
