View Full Version : Divergent

So yeah this is a dystopian science fiction novel (kinda like the Hunger Games I suppose). Its set in Chicago in the future, where there are 5 factions: Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Candor, and Amnity, which everyone is sorted into at 16. Once sorted you remain in that faction for life. If you don't match any one faction then you're divergent. Its gotten decent reviews from the press, and at least half the people I know on Tumblr are going mad about how good it is.

I'm about halfway through the first chapter and its actually really good so far. :amazed:

The rights have also been sold to Summit for a film adaptation. :D

Its fantastic isn't it?! I finished both books in the space of a week. I couldn't put them down!

There's a massive cliffhanger at the end of Insurgent though its going to kill you.

The Hunger Games obviously, but this is a very, very close second.

I'm only on page 20-something of Mockingjay and THG Trilogy isn't even that good. Catching Fire was really dull and if Mockingjay doesn't get good soon I am just going to give up. This sounds better.

It's by Veronica Roth. 3 book series. The latest to book series to make it to the big screen.

Finished Alligent last night............decided Hunger Games wins :/

***Aligent Spoiler*****
Oh God Alligent was the biggest load of crap ever, so disappointing when the first two were so good. Adding Tobias POV was clearly just done for when Tris dies so he can finish off the story but she made a horrible job of making him sound anyway different from Tris. She turned his character into a moronic whingey "panseycake"

Tris dying was stupid and unnessecary but the book was so crap I didn't give that much of a s**t by the end anyway.

And don't even get me started about the billions and billions of plot holes and how ridiculous it was that Tris facing the death serum and breaking into that weapons lab was the only solution to the problem........I could list alot of much easier and less deadly options for them......like say stealing some truth serum and giving it to David to get the code???? Infact they already had some truth serum that they were planning to use on one of Tobias parents........... or they could have just stole the memory serum from the Amity which would have been far far easier and less deadly for everyone.........AAARRRGGGHHHHH

I've read all 3 books and found them brilliant, however i watched the film and was rather disappointed, if you haven't read the books then i would think following the film would be difficult, and i couldn't get over the fact that Christina is tiny in the film, with Tris being taller, when in the books Tris is the smallest.

Lol Niamh at your Allegiant spoiler:laugh:

My daughter cried her eyes out at the ending and i too thought it was unnecessary and could have left the ending with more promise (i can't say too much as someone might not have read the books and i hope you get what i'm saying!)

you can use spoilers to say what you want Rubymoo, when you reply use the go advanced option and click the button second from the end on the task bar that says spoil and post in between that

It wasn't even the ending that really bothered me though, the story itself was just so stupid. Like another thing that really bothered me was David the head of the Bureau, that's so invested in his experiment he's willing to kill a huge chunk of them and wipe all the others memories yet he does something as moronic as letting Tris, a well known rebel and a former resident of said experiment, who's parents and friends were killed because of David, and the love of her life is one of the "genetically damaged" he lets her into his meetings where he reveals all his evil plans???WUT???

You may not be interested in this but someone wrote a fan fiction alternate third book and it's actually a really good read, she continues the story from the end of insurgent and it's a much much much better plot

Thanks Niamh:love:

Will read it when i get time, as Allegiant was a bit of a let down, although i did enjoy it, i hated the ending.

I would suggest you don't watch the film as it is a let down on the original book.

Never read hunger games (love the films) and at the moment i'm trying to read under the dome (wow it's one big book!) love under the dome:love:
