I'd personally say that the late slot was to blame, but I do think people are turning off for the sake of it- over on Digital Spy people are refusing to stop watching until the music and nametags disappear, seeming forgetting that some of the gimmicks of this series were in a C4 series of BB (BB10 and/or BB11, I believe)

Though it's later than usual for a first highlights show, it's not a late slot for BB in general.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we did now. Dropped 52% in one night.

I suppose so far there's nothing really to excite people or attract many more viewers, wonder if Pamela Anderson last year did actually help in establishing some initial interest

It is the constant celebrity series which shadows the main series. The main series is becoming a spin off. The ratings show this

Oh actually last years first show only got 1.4m, a drop from the launch of 2.6m, so it's pretty similar (that was a saturday for BB12 though I think)

I agree, CBB has contributed to the death of BB. Why watch ordinary people act stupid when you can watch a zeleb do it?
Get rid of it...Why pay these people to be LESS entertaining than regular BB contestants?
Put the money saved into some great tasks and it could be saved.

That's always a vocal minority. Every BB fan likes bitching about the show and threatening to stop watching if X happens/keeps happening
If you weren't a BB fan, there was absolutely nothing in the launch to keep you watching - CBB9 not only had big names but had more diversity and better immediate stories (Madsen coping with Brits, Andrew Stone clearly ready to annoy everyone). BB13's just got a lot of pretty people and a few sex scandal housemates - not much to keep a casual fan interested

It's not really an issue, it's pretty much on par with last year and they renewed it for 2 years on those figures.

It's not that big a deal. It always takes a plunge after the launch.

They have a contract to televise BB for another 2 years but that doesnt mean they have to air summer BB.
I think this will be the last one and from now on we will just be getting the celeb series.
BTW op there is a ratings thread :)

Poor.
But I kinda want it to continue dropping, part of me does anyway, because maybe then they'll stop their little games and start listening. Perhaps if it keeps dropping they might reinstate a bit more of you know what...

People tuned in to see who was going in the house and once they saw there was no variety to the people entering the house they switched off. I know a fair few that have done this and also did this last year. BB needs to realise that BB was all about viewing a broad spectrum of people and not just people in their 20's who are models.
I predict 1.1m for tonight's HLs
Don't really see why anyone would want to stick with the show after the launch and the first highlight show, there isn't enough interesting characters it's just going to be about relationships this year maybe a few arguments here and there but nothing worth tuning in for
Thing is- with ratings like this- knowing Channel 5 [brian- 'which I do'] I reckon next year they'll scrap 'normal' Big Brother all-together and just have Celeb Big Bro- that really will be the last straw!
