Discuss all the announcements (and the pre-show rumours) here.... keep it all in one thread since mods aren't blessing us with a section dedicated to technology (or more importantly, Apple)
Rumored/Obviously going to be announced:
iOS 6
Mac OS X Mountain Lion
Airplay in OS X Mountain Lion
MacBook Air-like MacBook Pros
Complete notebook refresh
Re-appearence of a disc-driveless 'MacBook'
New iCloud apps and capabilities
VERY long shot (not going to happen) New iPhone
(Probably not this time, but later this year, unfortunately) iPad mini
Ditching Google, launch of own Mapping services with 3D capabilities. (With acquisition of Placebace, etc)
I use the website appleinsider.com which is quite reliable and informative, which is where most of those rumours have been found.
ANNOUNCEMENTS TO START AT 6PM GMT ON MONDAY 11TH JUNE.

Apparent links to developer builds of iOS 6 and Safari 6 have been leaked, interestingly showing a lack of support for the original iPad. Support also appears to have been dropped for the 3rd gen iPod touch.

Surprised they're supposedly dropping the orignal iPad so soon. They're still supporting the iPhone 3GS for god sake!

Saving for a Macbook Pro atm, so definitely looking forward to this.
Ryan.

Yea I don't think they will drop the iPad, it is significantly more powerful than the 3GS so if they do drop it then it's not a technology issue :P

I bought my MacBook Pro early last year and I love it. Still as fast as they day I bought it.

Yeah was thinking the same thing.. lets hope they don't. Steve wouldn't be happy if they did haha.

I know.. there's no way I'd be allowed to get it though. I only for this one just over a year ago. Plus I've got car insurance -_-

Niall

I'm seriously thinking of saving up and getting one. I have a MacBook atm, but its 2 years old and its slowing down a fair bit.

I'm sure they'll keep the same £999 entry point. Would be silly if they didn't. But then, they've made the Air more like the old MacBook in terms of an entry level notebook, dont you think?

I know that feeling. Got mine last February... every time you buy one you think 'this is exactly what I want, I'm happy with it, whatever they bring out I won't want'... DAMN YOU APPLE, DAMN YOU.

Yeah I guess so. I think its silly they stopped doing regular MacBooks anyway tbh. :bored:

and plus mine got replaced in november because it was breaking but not unusable. Why didn't I just live with a broken laptop until now and then get a new one for replacement. :bawling:

To be honest, there wasn't really a need for them. They dropped the price of the air, which is now probably on par or over the capabilities of the last MacBook. So the Air is basically now their entry level, basic 'MacBook'... back when they had the aluminum MacBook there lines between the pro and MacBook where really blurred. (Wish they'd put the same black bezel on the air though, that would look pretty darn sexy.)

True. It would be nice if they offered a little more variety though. I've never liked the Air really. :suspect:
All I care about right now really is the new iPhone. I'm 90% sure they won't announce it today but I still wish they would. I just want to know what they have up their sleeve.
Also, if iPad Siri isn't made available for second generation iPads then ima be so pissed omg. :bored:

Yeah. I think its obvious that it isn't coming to the iPad 2 when consider that the voice dictation thing for iPad was exclusive to the iPad 3.

Niall
11-06-2012, 06:02 PM
I wouldn't bet on it Sam, they're only announcing the next version of iOS today. They tend to update the iPod/iPhone line in October or September.
Sawyer
11-06-2012, 06:03 PM
iPhone 3GS maybe, but not 4. They've supported the 3Gs since 2009, so the 4 should be fine for another year or so, hopefully. (I have the 4)
Wait.. has this new pro got a disc drive?
Any word on this? Would consider buying a Macbook for the first time but if they've not got disc drives any more they can ****** off

I don't think they have. I agree with Apple pushing things forward (remember the horror of abandoning floppy disc drives).. but I do think this may be one step too far, I'm not sure. That said, I hardly use the disc drive in my MacBook Pro.

The new Pro is devoid of a disc drive, yes. It hasn't got an ethernet port either as Apple branded them as "legacy technologies".

Yeah. They're being pretty agressive over it. But there's logic to it as well, I mean I barely use my disc drive anymore, and I've never used the ethernet port on my MacBook, so.

Can understand why they'd ditch ethernet - laptops are primarily mobile devices, you don't necessarily want them tied down to routers etc.
Still think they're a bit premature in axing disc drives though - after all, download sales of albums have only just overtaken CD sales in the last few months (AFAIK). DVDs aren't exactly dead yet either.
Sawyer
11-06-2012, 06:13 PM
That's Apple though, which is a large part of the reason of why I love their stuff. Clear out the old crap, pushing things forward. But I agree, may of been a TAD premature... -never disagree's with apples decisions lol-

Yeah I mean ethernet has kinda fallen out of use now with the advent of wi-fi.
And whilst that's true, I'm sure not many people will be too bothered by it. 95% of the stuff that can be bought in physical format can be gotten in download form so its good that they're modernising I guess. I makes the machine a lot lighter and thinner too.

Same, it's long overdue. I know the current one is sort of "traditional" for iPhone now but they could do with tweaking it a bit (or a lot) or at least offering other options. Samsung Galaxy has a much more customisable home/lock screen and it looks amazing. But I still prefer iPhone to Galaxy, just not the layout.

Ikr the weather app annoys me so much in that it just displays the one temperature all the time its such a waste omfg.

It always amazes me how to Apple iOS apps are sometimes worse than developer's apps are. IE Weather app / MET office weather app.

Siri on new iPad. FOR **** SAKE.
Sorry apple, but we all know iPad 2 is capable enough. Piss take. Money grabbers.

iOS6 compatible with iPhone 3GS but not the original iPad

These features mentioned are stupid or amazing but you'd use them like twice a year. Apple needs to update the stuff that is constantly used every day on an iPod/iPhone/iPad like the layout and just other stuff. It's fine now but there's still issues and idk that felt pointless.
Sawyer
11-06-2012, 06:58 PM
True, they did that last year. Is Siri out of beta yet?
Doogle

Hold on I have a question... is it going to be iPhone 5 or 6? Just because it's the 6th iPhone so idk

Yeah thats how I feel. The whole of iOS needs a massive overhaul if it still wants to compete with the rest of the market.
True, they did that last year. Is Siri out of beta yet?
I think it was only in beta for non english countries. I'm not entirely sure, though.

It's going to be the iPhone 5, but technically it will be the sixth iPhone.

probably just the new iPhone just like it's the new iPad.
you can see the logic.. the new MacBook Pro isn't MacBook Pro 642, just the new MacBook Pro.
Oh phew, it appears the non-retina Macbook Pros still have a disc drive:
