apologies for yet another LF thread but does anyone really know why they are so dead against giving us what the majority of us want? maybe it's just too expensive for them to bother with or maybe there is a more sinister reason behind it, such as it making it far easier for them to manipulate what goes on.

I'm beginning to think that, especially since the the little bit of L/f feed they gave us last year did so well
Maybe they can't cancel contracts with other shows to fit the lf in anywere
I think it is because if someone does something that could cause huge offence such as the shilpa race row they can edit it out preventing them from recieving complaints and ofcom investigating the channel. LF means that viewers will at least hear such an event being discussed or may even see it unfold therefore it has to be shown to avoid allegations that they are covering it up, but showing it means controversy and complaints. They couldnt win in either situation.

I would love to know the reason why.

This, plus I wonder if they have cut down on the number of camera people behind those screens now to save more money.

It is all about manipulation so they can mould a storyline where there probably isnt really one.
To make the action seem faster paced and more exciting than it really is so they can appeal to a younger audience which is an audience that is worth more to advertisers.
They can command bigger fees from advertisers if they can present figures that show that the average BB viewer is say 16-25. A young demographic is an advertisers dream and they will pay a premium to get to it.
Unfortunately it is all short term gain as it is destroying the shows loyal audience and replacing them with casual viewers that will and are going to get bored of it.
Most shows only have a short shelf life BB has been an exception but now C5 have ripped its guts out and gone for the short term gain it wont be long before its dead and buried unless they return to the proven winning format ASAP.
Thats what i think is the reason why theres no live feed anyway :)

The Shilpa race row was in reaction to material screened in the highlight show rather than the earlier live feed. Maybe BB should have intervened earlier to warn or remove the offenders, but that's not an editorial decision.

Maybe just too expensive to run? It can't be completely live (a few seconds delay would be necessary to censor out anything too graphic), so it would require constant monitoring and video editing.

So, they can easily manipulate the footage and make storylines. And because they were never interested in buying the Big Brother brand and everything it entailed. They just wanted the Celebrity Money Maker series.

I just think they can't really be bothered with transmitting a 24/7 stream that'd (like Anthony said) need to be continuously monitored, edited, censored etc. perhaps they don't consider it worth the time, effort and money that it requires.

I've heard over on DS that apparently they still run the internal stream (which means it's still being monitored and edited for compliance) in the studios and that's how some of the presenting team watch it, which in theory apparently means that the feed is there and is all set up, they're just not broadcasting it online or on TV anywhere. In which case it's all the more pathetic.
I just think it's for editorial reasons, they can create just about any storyline and narrative they wish without it. There's honestly no justifiable reason to not provide one, it is the exact premise of Big Brother and every country in the world has one for their series.

It's about control and manipulation.
It's not about money, they've already admitted that. What they did blame was "lack of interest" in a live stream.
So what does that say about Sh!t on the Side then because the hour of live we got last time had better ratings than most episodes of that cak.

Nah..i think that's a bit too conspiracy theory-ish. You can be sure if there was a buck to be made, they'd be all over it! I think when they took over from C4, they crunched the numbers, and tried to streamline a bit, and LF was on their "cull" list. There'd be a small element of having more storyline control, ie. to cover up disgusting stuff, like what happened with freezergate, last year. But, ultimately i think that's more about them not wanting the neg publicity, rather than a massive cover-up to save a certain HM. Even if there was LF, i reckon the daily shows would be much the same...they're two different beasts, and the vast majority of the population don't have time to sit watching LF for many hours per day.

if there is an internal stream, it really does seem strange they won't give us it.

I'd imagine it's more to do with cost... but you would think if they offered online streaming only at a charge then it would make it viable for them to do :conf:
Maybe they just think it's pointless? I mean I used to like watching live feed, but to be fair you never really got to see much, so much of the time the sound was cut & often it would focus on someone or something completely uninteresting. I know a hell of a lot more goes on in the house than is shown, but they do show the "best bits" in the hilights show, but of course they can easily edit it in a way to favour someone with more/less screen time...

Not worth it when only a small portion of the viewers would actually view it.
I don't think it has anything to do with wanting to control story lines, etc.

If it's pointless then Big Brother is pointless. And as for cutting sound they actually improved on that during the last year they had it. The sound cutting may have been at it's worst in BB7, but that doesn't mean it was always like that, in some series it was definitely quite viewable.
I just think a lot of people just don't understand the purpose of the live stream and how it created a buzz and gave things to talk about. But people who don't understand are also very quick to pointificate about it.

I think people widely overestimate the popularity of the livefeeds. Everyone on the forums want them? What about the hundreds of thousands of people not bother with the forums that could careless about them.
Having the livefeed means they need to monitor everything with a fine-toothed comb 24/7 on the feeds they want to provide so nothing splits through that gets the studio in ****. That's likely costly, and if the demand isn't high enough it's not going to be worth it. They obviously don't feel it's worth the time, money or likely the lack of appeal it would cause the main show to destroy and edited drama they create during the day.
Someone find some official stats that show the majority of BB watches also bother with the livefeeds. Then you'll have some ground to stand on.

I don't think its about control because its the endemol that edit the show not c5. There was a BBUK tweet that suggested the the producers were keen of live feed but c5 were not having it.

Just about every Big Brother around the world has it, and and 10 seasons of British Big Brother had it. That's plenty enough ground to stand on for anyone who knows anything about this show.

What other countries do, or what other seasons did is irrelevant. If they don't feel the demand is there enough to do it, they ain't going to do it.
People talk big about how many people want to see the LF, yet no one posts any stats to show just how many people actually did view it in the past. Ratings drop, why would you assume the LF viewership hasn't drop to a point it's now worth the effort.
