Sounds sensible. If the parents can't be bothered to properly parent someone's got to do it.

I agree wholeheartedly with this and it should be enforced across the entire UK. Draconian my arse. It's the best thing I've heard for a while. Get it done.

as long as some alternative form of entertainment is arranged for them to get involved in, sports, music whatever etc otherwise it's just draconian oppression imo

alternative entertainment for kids under 16?? are you kidding? alternative entertainment = watch a video or read a book. be in the house by 9pm, brush your teeth, go to bed.
These are KIDS we're talking about.

I hope these special measures are enforced also for children in local authority care, they are the ones who are in the 'most vulnerable' catagory I would say. It would be interesting to see how they intend to police that.
There are also those for whom home is not a safe place, I hope they are supported in this.

Spot on, and here's a radical idea, why don't the parents.spend some time with them, I play board games such as Scrabble and Cluedo with my son. He's also a keen reader, rather than having his eyes always glued to a tv.

It may expand after this 6months

Dumb, it's tarring all under 16 year olds with the same brush because a few are idiots, I would be out after 9 all the time when I was that age, not doing anything bad just going to the cinema or something like that, it's ridiculous that that you can now be a criminal for doing so

It isn't enforced like that, or the pilot wasen't, just gangs of a certain number loitering.

yes unfortunately the good pay the price, but I would say it's more than a few, the area where I live is terrible for anti social behaviour and kids roam the streets till all hours, aged as young as 7/8 up to older teens. And they can still do these things (cinema etc) but would have to be escorted home by an adult.

there's no reason to be out that late when yur a kid. you say you went out to see movies, well you could just as easily see a movie earlier in the day and still be home by 9pm, right?

I still don't like the idea of a blanket ban which assumes that someone under the age of 16 who's out after 9 must be causing trouble, it's all quite patronising really. They should be doing more work to try and prevent the genuine troublemakers, instead of bringing in sweeping legislation which punishes the innocent just as much as it does the guilty

They're 15 not 5, you were tucked up in bed by 9 every night at that age?

exactly they are 15!!! yes, and at 16 they can stay out past curfew.
i don't understand yur point, what is wrong with expecting 15 y/o's to be home by 9pm???

Well I don't think it's fair to bring in blanket legislation which hits the innocent just as much as the guilty and treats them the same, and I think it's perfectly reasonable for some under 16's to be out after 9pm and not be treated as a criminal for it
Oh for the love of god, how could they get it so wrong?....

I mean they are targetting everyone, which is wrong, I researched the pilot scheme after it was compleated and it was recieved favourably.
http://www.communitycare.co.uk/Articles/22/08/2008/109198/Nightime-youth-curfew-shows-signs-of-success.htm
The major difference are the sanctions imposed... they are the issue, the pilot was voluntary, and it worked.

Of course it's not draconian - in at 9pm, talk to parents (that's a little thing known as communication for those families who've forgotten), sort out their school things, then bath or shower and bed.
I'm guessing they'd be in bed for roughly 11pm, which then gives their bodies/brains the average of 8hrs hours sleep per night to function properly.
We might even find that if they enforce this all over the country, we might just see and end to those zombie roaming, alcohol gulping pests - that behave erratically because they're not getting enough sleep or nurturing from their parents required for normal behaviour!
Just a thought

This is what happens when the tory champagne quaffer's make cuts to essential services such as policing and community and youth centres and yet let companies that helped fund the tory election campaign such as Amazon and Topshop pay zero tax despite earning £7.8billion pounds.
What do they think is going to happen to the youths that have nothing better to do in the evening except roam the streets that are suddenly also less policed than they have ever been?
Same old tory scum looking after their own.

You have helped me make my mind up on this one,I thought it sounded a good idea but from being 13,I was regularly not in by 9pm, as you say going to the Cinema with friends even just going home after visiting friends too.
I wouldn't have liked to 'have' to be in the house by 9pm, my Parents always knew where I was and trusted me so had this occurred then, why should I have had to conform to a blanket curfew on under 16s.
I am with you on this one, I am against it.

Before anyone thinks I am Tory, I'd just like to point out that not only am I not - but David CaMoron is the biggest incarnation on Maggies Thatch I have seen! :joker: I'm not for any Political party, I think they're all as bad as each other.
Now I've got that out the way, my response to your post - It is not up to the police, or any other service to look after children/teens, it's up to the parents.
I didn't go to youth clubs, I didn't hang around the streets causing a nuisance - and if I went to the cinema etc, I'd do it of a weekend.
If there was anything special happening on a school night, my Dad would take me and pick me up, but it was rare, as most of my friends parents were much like my own.
I know David CaMoron and the Tories like to look after number one - but in this case I agree.
If you have kids, look after them yourself - don't expect local services to at the expense of the rest of society.

I was reading today about a study which says how just 4% of kids are responsible for almost half of all youth crime, all the more reason why sweeping legislation like this is dumb

I would say its above that
in any case its their fault - that every young kid is under this rule.
