'We flew the flag for Britain': Mel C reveals she'd be upset if Spice Girls were snubbed from Olympics

The girls are not on the list of 86 tracks selected for the opening ceremony and Mel is hoping they won't be ignored altogether

When Olympic organisers released a playlist for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Games, there was one notable omission.

Some of Britain’s greatest chart-toppers appeared in the pick of 86 tracks, including David Bowie, Oasis, Sugababes, Arctic Monkeys, Duran Duran, Blur and Coldplay.

But, unbelievably, there was no space for the Spice Girls.

And band member Mel C reveals that she won’t be happy if the girls are snubbed by ceremony director Danny Boyle.

Sporty Spice declares: “I don’t know exactly where this list has come from, and obviously sometimes things come out that aren’t quite right.

“But I’d be really upset if the Spice Girls weren’t included in the Olympics, whether it be the opening or closing ceremonies or any other playlists, because I think we absolutely represented Britain in the 90s.

“We literally flew the flag – and Geri even wore it – around the globe.”

Mel, full name Melanie Chisholm, adds: “We were proud to be British and to be successful internationally, and we were the last band probably to do that.

“So I think it would be a real shame if we weren’t acknowledged in some way at the Olympics.”

I agree with her really, can't deny they were a massive part of the 90's. And compared to some of the other artists chosen it's ridiculous.

Yeah, I agree with her as well. No way should the Sugababes be there ahead of them. The Spice Girls were the biggest Girl group in the world at one point.

You would think they would be, especially as some artists are in there numerous times.

Full list is here (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forums/showthread.php?t=203851&highlight=olympics+playlist) Joe.

Ohh yeah cheers. Yeah you'd think they'd be able to find a place within 86 tracks

They are one of the nation's biggest embarrassments. The selection's not perfect but it's got far better artists and songs than the Spice Girls ever were. They're not artists. They're a lesson in marketing.

I'm much more ashamed of Rizzle Kicks than Spice Girls. At least the Spice Girls had some sort of cultural impact. Rizzle Kicks have James Cordon in a video and a song with Olly Murs.

Like it or not The Spice Girls were icons of the 90's. They are so iconic to late British music history. They deserve some Olympic support.

They should ditch half of those old songs that noones heard in like 60 years and replace them with some songs from the last 10-15 years. I hate how old people turn a blind eye to modern music :suspect:

Its weird to think in 2040 we'll all be like "omg remember Rihanna.."
