Coughing remedies?

Does anybody have any really affective coughing remedies?

I've taken medicine, syrup, tablets, inhaler etc. but my hayfever has really been kicking my bum this past week or so, I woke up coughing this morning and I couldn't stop :(

Anybody have any nice old-wives-tale-remedies? :(

I get tonsilitus a lot and antibiotics dont work on me anymore and the best thing to get rid of the pain is having a coat of chocolate on the back of your throat...sounds odd but it really works.

Works on tickly coughs too...
