It's controversial because of the specific animal she used, which has historically been associated with a racial slur. If someone called Beckie a whale for example, I don't think the initial reaction would be that it's racist.

Now, whether she said it with intent, knowing it was a racial, is up for debate. The people who don't like Caroline will of course say it was a racial remark, while her supporters will say it was a poor choice of words. The reality though, is that only she knows.

Absolutely. Conor threatened sexual violence against a woman and gets away with it, but Caroline gets a formal warning for a 'racist' remark. The thing is, there is no ambiguity in what Conor said, therefore there is no doubt involved, whereas it is debatable whether Caroline meant what she said as a racist remark.
I don't like either of them, but BB obviously doesn't give a damn about perceived violence and bullying of women, but anything slightly resembling racism is seen by them as much, much worse.

Disagree. If she called him a rhino or a polar bear, I doubt we'd be having this conversation. It's controversial because of the specific animal she used, which has historically been associated with a racial slur. If someone called Beckie a whale for example, I don't think the initial reaction would be that it's racist.

Now, whether she said it with intent, knowing it was a racial, is up for debate. The people who don't like Caroline will of course say it was a racial remark, while her supporters will say it was a poor choice of words. The reality though, is that only she knows.

That's not true. I don't like Caroline and I don't think she meant the word 'gorilla' in a racially offensive context. You need to understand that a lot of people are able to not let the preference of a particular housemates bias their opinions when it comes to controversial issues, such as this one.
