First off, to be that size at 19 isn't a choice. You don't spent your entire childhood a normal, healthy weight, and then pack on an extra person and a half worth of fat in 2 years. That is years of abusing her body, both while in the custody of her parents and on her own. She does not know what it's like to be thin, so she has nothing to compare to.

What I wonder is if she had the type of parents that deal with an obese child be locking up food and making it a forbidden obsession, or if she merely had the type who think frozen chicken nuggets is cooking a homemade meal from scratch and a nice break from McDonald's and Indian takeaway every night.

Thats not true at all actually. There are loads of people who find obese people attractive...sometimes for no reason other than their size.
