Its absolutely insane that they're doing this. Pulling out of the EU would be one of the biggest mistakes this country could make. :bored:

They'll "consider" it "when the time is right", doubt that's a genuine promise, probably just saying it to temporarily appease the Tory backbenchers

They can hold a referendum but defer decisions as to policy for whatever time they decree, they can also make it a consultation referendum whereby it may not be binding on whatever Govt is in or comes in.

I do think the Europe issue needs to be asked, however I do not for one moment believe the press would balance out the arguments for or against fairly. most being against Europe anyway.

It would seem likely that the Labour party is moving to the stance of holding a referendum, it may be likely that the Conservatives steal their thunder on this issue.
However, I feel sure any referendum will have questions that give the Govt plenty of manouvre to deal with the issue.
The referendum to be binding could be constructed in such a way that a certain % of eligible voters must have voted, it could also contain a condition that to be binding it would have to have two thirds or whatever of the votes cast either way to be binding on a Govt too.
Many ways to 'engineer' the result of such a referendum.

If it is to happen, any refendum,no matter what form it will take, will likely be in the 2015 manifesto's with the idea of holding such a referendum before 2020,so a good while yet to alter public opinion, myself I am not that sure the UK would vote to leave Europe anyway.

But if we leave the EU, we'll still have to comply with all EU trading laws and regulations, only we'd have forfeited our right to have a say in what those regulations and rules stipulate. The EU could change the laws to our disadvantage and screw over British companies. Its not a smart move.
