no american has ever won a reality show in england? coincidence? Is the anti american rhetoric of the past decade (mainly probably due to our dubious political foreign relations with the US ) has it cost the american contestants dear.
I want adam to win but will being american or sounding american will mean its very unlikely as the english dont seem to vote for americans to win english reality tv shows....they actually voted for jade goodys ex husband to beat vanilla ice on the farm..darnell was ok cant remember who beat him, dirk benedict was awesome he was booted out, jermaine jackson class act, out, dennis rodman, tracy bingham who was very nice, the legend that is michael madsen lost to denise welch (the lowest point in BB history in my opinion) etc
etc .someone also beat david guest on celebrity in the jungle and huggy bear was also booted....the list goes on, no american has ever won any realty show in england
nothing is more guaranteed to get a cheap laugh for a dumbed down manipulated studio audience than an anti american cliche, oh they dont get ironic sense of humour says the likes of pete burns? the irony is, he doesnt know what irony is, he demands people treat people as individuals and then he calls (several times) for all americans to be banned from future shows? and the audience cheers? was he joking? I dont think so
no american winners?coincidence with other worthy winners? or something deeper? how can adam break the duck?

It's very sad that many Brits are probably so insecure that they wouldn't vote for an american. Many of them have been my favourites on CBB.

I don't see it as an "anti-american" thing. Its a numbers thing. What percentage of contestants have been american? I'd guess less than 10%.

yes the lower percentage is of coure logically a factor, but no winner in over a decade? we have had all sorts of other winners....I find your answer a typically knee jerk politically correct sounding answer with not enough thought put into it....Im talking about over a decade of reality tv , loads of guests and celebrities and you already have the answer in a split second? sorry but id hope for a more thought out response than reaching for the pc cliche box, youre losing credibility. no offence

I think there's an element to the British public where we're heartened by small familiarities - be it an accent, jokes about Scousers/Geordies/Welsh people, or common slang.
The perception of Americans is probably quite poor. Not to me, personally, but I think there's a definite variety of stereotypes that we have - much like we believe the French to be arrogant, the Germans to be precise or the Italians to be passionate. It's not exclusively American (since the US has so many different stereotypes - the ghetto black guy, the L.A. glamour model, the hick, the New York businessman, the Vegas party animal, the mormon, the amish, the bible basher...), but there's a mental distance between British and just about everyone, and I think this, however subliminal, affects our judgment of non-Britons.
The British also seem slow on the uptake of gameplayers. We didn't like Kristina and Karissa because they were quite open about their manipulation. We favour sob stories and loudmouths because of this weird idea of honesty being the best trait to have. I'd rather listen to someone machiavellian and quiet than loud and ignorant. Dennis Rodman and Coolio were also very much gameplayers - trying to wind up other housemates and get them to leave. We don't seem to embrace those types of characters.
A couple of the examples you gave were slightly boring, though - Traci Bingham, Dirk Benedict, Jermaine Jackson. All very good, modest, interesting and nice people, but completely outshone by bigger characters (or race rows and sympathy votes )
But yeah I take issue with this idea of the USA being the sole trader of evil in the world. Especially since the biggest modern issue with America is the Iraq/Afghanistan wars, something we weren't exactly shying away from.

Hi, I'm Indy, and I'm an American addicted to UK TV.
I'd kindly point you to Tim Anderson, the Wisconsonite who won Masterchef series before last. Granted, that's not a viewer-voted show, but if they'd thought he'd be hated, they would've found a reason to get rid of him, especially since he made some very weird things along the way.
That said, there are some shows that relish skewering Americans more than others. Buzzcocks comes to mind specifically, but again, when they get idiots like Kelly Rowland, who can blame you?

Like I said, I see it as a numbers game. I only watch BBUK so I can't comment on the other shows. I've seen Americans do quite well on BB, they've never won, but some have certainly been popular. How many Americans have been on BB, including celebrity? As I said earlier, its probably less than 10%, and a lot closer to 5%. So going by that, its quite probable to not have an American winner so far. Feel free to rip my logic apart here as you usually like to do. Also, BB has always been a game about relatability, with the public choosing who wins. I think its quite logical as well that the UK public find it easier to cheer on someone from London/Manchester/Liverpool then from LA or New York. Not in every instance of course, but I'm sure that comes into play in some situations.

Its logical to be patriotic and want a brit to win. And i also agree is a numbers thing as well.
A british girl won americas next top model this year. Then again, maybe she wouldnt have won if it had been up to a voting public, maybe yes. Americans love british accents.

I know Adam is technically British but most people will just read him as being American.
Personally I am hugely suspicious of Americans entering British reality TV shows and trying to climb up fame ladder. It's as if they want a quick short cut - much harder to get onto US reality/ showbiz ie more competition etc. Caprice, The Killers, Ruby Wax etc would not have been successful starting out in earnest stateside imo. It's a bit like US actor Andrew Garfield he cut his teeth on UK TV eg Sugar Rush, Boy A etc as he was raised in UK, landed role in Social Network and now is Spider Man. He'd never have got so far if he started his acting career in US. Now that he's made it he's now calling himself 'American' who just happened to be raised in England, and therefore can do good British accents. Well it's funny how he wasn't American 5 years ago :nono::nono::devil:

If Adam is in the final,I will be voting for him to win, doesn't matter to me where they come from,it's personality that counts and Adam seems to have turned his life round and be a nice genuine guy, obviously I can't talk for everyone else, but for me it's not an issue

It's just, we don't really give a ****** or look into it as much as Americans do.
If an American gets voted out of our Big Brother, every American fan is like;
'YOU BE HATING ON OUR COUNTRY AND OUR PEOPLE AND DON'T GET US. THAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH YOU BRITS.'
When in reality, it's just like 'we dgaf? :idc:'
Most Americans who enter Big Brother though, I actually like.

9/10 the public will vote someone inoffensive to win, looking at recent examples of American housemates they've all been fairly divisive. The twins and Tara Reid were painted as bitches, Micheal Madsen was a Marmite housemate and the Baywatch woman (can't remember her name for the life of me) was just a little too eccentric to last too long. If it wasn't for the race row then Jermaine Jackson would have easily won that CBB for example because he was likable and inoffensive.
It's to do with personality rather then nationality.

I think some people believe that BBUK should be just for people who are from the UK like some believe Britains got talent should be for people only from GB.
We have had some good American housemates who have brought a lot of entertainment & thats what should count.

You'd be hard pressed to scrape up many Americans who consider the UK the "motherland". Perhaps that perception is part of the problem. The majority of Americans, statistically, have no tie to the UK at all. They're more likely to be a mix of German, eastern European, Italian, etc, and those of us who can trace our history here back to before it was an independent country are a minority.
Aside from a fringe of people with a bizarre obsession with the royals, the truth is the UK is pretty much a non-entity outside Dr. Who, Monty Python, and Top Gear. In other words, it's Mostly Harmless.

We are not anti American...
There may be some who think a British TV show should have a British winner, but for the most part I think people simply support an individual based on their personality. There are of course those who support someone on Big Brother if they happen to come from their own town/city/region, so they will obviously have more support than a foreign person. But as has been pointed out Nadia won Big Brother & she was from Madeira...

I always assumed the British public was anti american but then again there haven't been any great Americans to go into the BB house. Most of them I wouldn't even vote for despite being American myself. But when you leave voting open to the public whether it be the American public or the UK public they get it wrong quite often. Most of the time they vote to save the least offense or "most normal" person not the person that makes for good t.v. That being said there are going to be prejudicial people voting no matter what. That's why a lot of my favorite reality shows have very little fan voting. I think the only shows I watch that let the fans vote for the winner is BBUK and The Voice.
