View Full Version : Deana Amazing expensive wedding day or money.....
...to start a life together..which would you choose..?
..I agree with Deanna's point of view
..I had quite a modest wedding about 100 years ago but know I married the right person..isn't that what's important

So did I, the day can be amazing firstly for what it is about and the fact 2 people want to commit for life to each other.
When I hear about the debt people have gone into just for the wedding is beyond me, I know for instance someone who financed his daughter's wedding, took out a 3 year loan to help cover it,he is still paying for it yet, the Marriage however broke down after 18 months and all I can think of is what a waste of effort and money.
I agree the day should be special of course but it is ridiculous what extent some go to as to the costs for it, I agreed with Deana completely as to what she said, it made total sense.
Luke S made it out she was money grabbing but if she was getting married, she was actually saving the funds for them both not wasting it on a lavish wedding to impress others.

I agree with Deana. Going into debt for a lavish wedding is beyond my comprehension. It is like people who go into massive debt for Christmas.

I agree with Deana! I don't ever see myself gettting married, it's not for me but if for some reason i changed mind no way would i consider spending 20k on it or anywhere near that figure.

My wedding was quite modest and I was just as happy!

I spent alot on my wedding, in hindsight though I wish we'd just gone away somewhere with close friends and family, so yeah I agree with Deanna

Too many people concentrate on the wedding and not enough on the marriage.

In hindsght yes, but the important thing is that you had agreat time and enjoyed your nuptials.

I think I would have enjoyed mine more if it was more low key and personal

Quite philosophical for a Monday morning, considering I have only had two cups of coffee so far.

I mentioned this in another thread already but what pissed me off most about Luke S was that he also said he'd take the money but that's ok cos he's a man or what?

You only get married once, you should spend whatever will make a great day. Life's not all about money.

Well I wouldn't want a registry office, taxi to the local pub wedding...If I had the money saved to do it I would make it a bit special for the right person...any offers?....haha :D

Tell me about it, my sister is getting married in September and she's chosen to take us all to Italy. A very expensive wedding costing about 35k :bored:

I'd take the money no question.......
A couple of my friends have paid obscene amounts of money on their wedding, and I think its ridiculous especially as thay have taken loans and credit cards out to fund them. One of the marriages has already broken down. All of them for done for show so they could be "princesses" and everyone would go "oooooooo". Even their OHs looked they hated every second :conf:
I would begrudge splashing that amount of cash for something that should be personal
But thats me :joker:

Wow... that's a lot for a wedding. I hope she doesn't have a huge sense of anti-climax when you all get back from Italy and she realises the wedding is over, the marriage has started and she's thirty five grand poorer. Nice little trip for you though, Marc.

Meh, it should be nice. But I don't have any money to my name and it's pretty much a requirement that I go. So my parent's will have to fork out for me

Big amazing wedding, might as well enjoy one day of married life :idc:
 With that attitude you shouldn't be getting hitched.
Take the money and enjoy many days of happiness!

Definitely Deana's view. The only thing we paid full price on our wedding was the catering. It was quite a letdown to the pastor, who tries to teach financial responsibility by suggesting people pay him 5% of what their total wedding costs as their pastor's fee. He would've been working nearly for free for us.
I'd definitely take that over Ashleigh, who said the other day she wants a big fat gypsy wedding dress made by Thelma Madine.
