Def Jam has confirmed that Channel Orange is, in fact, the name of Frank Ocean's new album, and that it's out July 17.

In a week that's been populated with obfuscated release announcements and trailers for upcoming albums, Odd Future's Frank Ocean has posted a teaser for something he's calling "Channel Orange". Watch the short clip he uploaded to his blog below, featuring a video of a car and a fine slow jam about a sexy dame called Cleopatra.

In an interview with the BBC from earlier this year, Ocean confirmed that he had patched things up with label Def Jam (he had become frustrated with their inaction after they never re-released Nostalgia, Ultra, apparently) and would be releasing an album in spring 2012. Is Channel Orange that record? We'll find out on July 17, according to the end of the video

Frank Ocean has just posted a statement on his Tumblr in which he appears to reveal that he is bisexual or gay. In the piece, which he says was supposed to accompany the liner notes for Channel Orange, he admits to having fallen in love with a man. It closes with, "I feel like a free man. If I listen closely.. I can hear the sky falling too."

Although the language is vague, it nonetheless marks a very brave step. Frank Ocean's crew, Odd Future, have been criticized for their virulent anti-gay lyrics, although Syd the Kyd, the group's sole female member, is an out lesbian.

As an introduction, Frank first posted on his Tumblr,

The long-awaited follow-up to Frank Ocean's Channel Orange is apparently coming very soon. Today, Ocean shared the above photo on his website with the words "I got two versions" and three hashtags that seem to imply that his third album is called Boys Don't Cry and is out this July.

Reports from the album's sessions hinted that Ocean was working with Hit-Boy ("*****s in Paris", Drake, Nicki Minaj), Rodney Jerkins (Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Destiny's Child), Happy Perez, Charlie Gambetta, and Kevin Ristro. It could include "Memrise".

In the period since Channel Orange was released, Ocean has been busy. He performed at the Grammys. He won a Grammy. He appeared on Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail. He appeared on John Mayer's Paradise Valley. Hit-Boy also recently shared a snippet of a Frank Ocean-featuring Nas song called "No Such Thing As White Jesus", which came after Converse dropped a song called "Hero"—his collaboration with Diplo and the Clash's Mick Jones and Paul Simonon.
