Home-grown British or American shows, which is your favourite and why?

Also who does each category better?

Drama?
Comedy?

What are you favourite shows from each genre?

I have never watched either of Desp Housewives or Ugly Betty, they just don't really appeal to me. American comedies can be good, like Big Bang Theory (Sheldon ) and there's a new-ish one called The Bitch in Apartment 23, that's funny.

I wouldn't say I'd have a favourite genre.

Trash TV/Talent shows I guess... Made In Chelsea, The Voice, X Factor, Big Brother, Young, Dumb & Living Off Mum, Coach Trip, 4 In A Bed.

But then I like American Drama as well so.

:bored: Big Brother is NOT 'trash tv' despite the others you mentioned in that list compiling into that category. Big Brother is actual 'reality tv' unlike all the other edited and scripted stuff. :p

How I Met Your Mother, Friends...... I'll just say E4 minus Glee, The Cleveland Show and Hollyoaks :joker: Desperate Housewives is one I really like. It's addictive. It's a bit of a mess of a show but I really enjoy watching it. I don't watch many dramas really.

For comedies I prefer British and Irish like Father Ted,The Office and Extras. I don't particularly like older British comedies though like Faulty towers or Only Fools and Horses

The Americans definitely do Dramas better though, my top 5 of all time are probably :

Dexter
Twin Peaks
Lost
The walking Dead
Game of Thrones

My all-time favourite TV series is Heroes. Great plots, interesting characters and I just love the whole "humans with super powers/enhanced abilities" concept. I also loved Harper's Island and Awake which were 1-offs.

Favourite current drama series include: The Walking Dead, Skins, Revenge and American Horror Story. Hopefully Breaking Bad will join that list when I get around to starting it next week!

Comedies Ive enjoyed are The Inbetweeners, 2 Pints of Lager and The IT Crowd. I dont know many old shows but Bottom is a comedy I love also. The Big Bang Theory is good but only from series 4 with Amy and Beernadette.. probably because I started watching with them present and the old 1s just feel.. odd (and I HATE Lesley).

I love Reality TV... The Apprentice, BB, TXF, Sun Sex + Suspicious Parents, Coach Trip, Come Dine With Me etc.

Then Alan Carr: Chatty Man is hilarious, definitely the best talk show, and Hollyoaks is the most entertaining soap.

After all that though, I dont watch that much TV.

Im a father ted fanatic! :) black books and alan partirdge too, not too keen on soaps or modern sitcoms though.
I love english drama like this is england, red riding, band of gold, boys from the blackstuff
but not period dramas like downton abbey.
I can't stand 'hollywood' films with car chases and explosions.
Lurve factual programmes, louis thouroux, cherry healy.. reality TV (BB obv) and documantaries, loathe quiz shows and x factor/ dancing juged talent shows...

The best programme ever made was sesame street and should be part of the curriculum in all primary schools.
:D
