yes I'm in a "returning hipster band" mood

Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker has a talent for knocking out guitar lines that unspool for miles on end, and "Apocalypse Dreams", our first taste from Tame Impala's forthcoming Lonerism, is evidence that he hasn't lost that talent yet. The expansive psych epic is six minutes long and finds Parker building up and breaking down a pile of day-glo melodies, before just letting the whole thing run free during the song's closing minutes. Add in the seared fuzz that surrounds the track, which goes a bit towards explaining producer extraordinaire Dave Fridmann's involvement, and you can file this one as a trip worth taking.

1. "Be Above It"
2. "Endors Toi"
3. "Apocalypse Dreams" 5:57
4. "Mind Mischief"
5. "Music to Walk Home By"
6. "Why Won't They Talk to Me?"
7. "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards"
8. "Keep on Lying"
9. "Elephant"
10. "She Just Won't Believe Me"
11. "Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control"
12. "Sun's Coming Up"

Following their very excellent 2012 LP Lonerism, Tame Impala are coming back with Currents, arriving later this year via their new label, Interscope. The band revealed the album tonight on their Facebook page, along with the album artwork pictured above. Ostensibly, Currents features Tame Impala's recently released track "Let It Happen"
