To give Scott and Ash a formal warning for mentioning her culture that suggests they eat with their fingers as being a bad stereo type is just rediculous.
I lived and worked in Dubai for 3 years and it is 80% Asian. When we went out at night to go for an indian to the real downtown Asian quarter, my wife took her own fork, why BECAUSE THEY DIDNT GIVE YOU ONE WITH YOUR MEAL. Their culture is like that and they try to uphold it and are proud of it as well. An asian friend of mine said they only use one hand because its one to eat and one to wipe with.
These idiots in the office are letting this series get away from them and actually are embarrassingly handing Deana this series on a plate by allowing her to be percieved as the victim, it isnt Deana thats doing it anymore, its them. Dozy tw.ts.

I agree with Sampvt ,talk about double standards it's OK to mimic people's accents as long as they're the right sort of accents, wouldn't want to stray down the path of political incorrectness. OMG I think it's time to hit the OFF switch, BB is making it up as they go along. They're probably so paranoid about upsetting the wrong demographic groups, the PC groups , the Sponsors, the Advertisers, the rules have become totally dependent on the prevailing mood of the day. They need to allow the housemates room to breathe, be expressive, get angry , be funny whatever..... But the second it's interpreted as potentially offensive then their pulled up for it. Fine ! But how about a bit of consistency , let everyone know where the lines are and keep them there. Not change the rules on an almost daily basis.... Don't know how much more of this current series I can take...!!!!!!!!!

I didnt see the edit in full so I can only comment on what I saw. The Chinese dont use metal impliments as it distains the taste of their food they use bone or wooden cutlery to eat with, We use metal because its supposed to be clean and healthy, Asians prefer to use their fingers when possible, are you to say that we are not allowed to say that the Chinese are wrong.
The inferance by another poster on another thread that rascism seems to be influenced by age issues is just plain daft. The youth of today are without doubt more inclined to be a little more over the top about certain things but thats life. Old people have views based on experiences gained in life and the youngsters of today are brought up with different tollerance levels in mind but I agree any rascism is bad but what is rascism and what isnt.
Some on here say that infering that eating with ther hands is in someway rascist is wrong, it is strange if you dont know it but defo not rascism. In my eyes it is one more exampe of PC gone mad.

Totally agree with the comments in here. Channel 5 and the people using the "bully" word at any opportunity and the ofcom callers are totally ruining BB. It has now got beyond a joke. It is going to get to the stage where we are just going to be watching a roomful of people staring into space scared to say or do anything for fear of being called a racist or bully. I think the producers are digging themselves a big hole by doing this... I really don't see how the show can continue for much longer because all entertainment value is being sucked out of it.
I have been an avid fan of BB from the first series and have not missed one since. I love the show but this series has been ruined for me. I am genuinely struggling to persevere with it. All the fun and entertainment has been sucked out of it week by week after such a promising start.
It's so upsetting to see a show that I loved being reduced to this contrived mess.

Jords their actions and inferances where ignorant due to a lack of understanding of that races culture but defo not rascist in any way. If as someone else has said they said it all with Putt Putt accents to mimic Asians then that brings the inferance up to a different level but as far as I can see nobody has proof of this action, it all seems to hinge around conspiracy theories.
i still hold with they where ignorant and needed a good slap but to lable them rascist is a bit strong, infact it borders on stupidity. Did you see the shows producer there tonight on bots, the thick prick didnt even know what colours the teams were blues or green and he agreed that noms were different because of face to face and it was unfair. he f..king authorised it the dumb prick. Eating with one's hands is an activity that lot's of cultures indulge in
Some ignorant people think it's filthy and primitive and whisper such behind the backs of these cultures in condescending tones. That's because they wipe with either hand indiscriminately and never wash them before shoving their fried mars bar, fish and chips chicken burger, pasty or pizza's in the gobs.

The bully word is over used. Bascially it's used by people who are not intelligent enough to win a legitimate argument. They lose and suddenly the 'victor' is a bully. Annoys the sh*t out of me.

By the way you must give me the name of the chop stick manufacturer that uses metal on their product or the soup bowls made of metal or the big table tennis bats they use as spoons or even the bamboo they clean their woks with. Obviously I dont get out now I am using the incontinent pants and the Zimmer frame, but I didnt realise times had change so badly.
The discussion was about culture on the whole not your young student mates of ethnic origins whooping it up in the present. Ask them what their mum makes them use at home. going off topic didnt help us there mate.

Why are people outraged when racism is pointed out to a racist and stereotyping to bullies?
Taking responsibility for your actions is an adult activity
simple denial: deny the reality of the unpleasant fact altogether
minimisation: admit the fact but deny its seriousness (a combination of denial and rationalization)
projection: admit both the fact and seriousness but deny responsibility by blaming somebody or something else.

2 reasons I believe
1) Possible chance of offending Indian viewers by being stereotypical
2) Verbally singling out Deana - the comments were made to be insulting
I thought Ashleigh's comment 'Wanid to giv her a ****ing spoon' to be very ignorant.

I thought Ashleigh's comment 'Wanid to giv her a ****ing spoon' to be very ignorant.
But does Ashleigh actually grasp British culture, let alone anyone else's? Personally I don't think for a moment she does.
Example: I used to work with adults with learning disabilities, each week we used to take a group for sewing classes at an elderly centre. The 'golden oldies' used to segregate themselves from the one's with LD's, even making them line up after they had queued for food! One day, an elderly lady approached us, it wasn't that she was being against anyone with disabilities, she just didn't understand through lack of education, blame a generation or whatever. The elderly lady became good friends with the people I looked after and genuinely cared for each and every one, and involved her friends. It was just something she'd not known about when she grew up.
Ashleigh isn't far off the mark either from my example. Should her parent's have educated her more with regard to social skills, oh yes! I grew up in a tiny mining village, where 99.9% were white folks. My children were taught to respect life, not the colour of skin. IMO, it's all about education in socialisation, first and foremost. But it cuts both ways.
Asians prefer to use their fingers when possible, are you to say that we are not allowed to say that the Chinese are wrong.
Obviously that statement is stereotyping in itself. Japanese people, for example, would never eat with their hands. I think it's too general to say 'asians' when you're talking primarily about south-eastern asians, notably, Indians.

Yeah way too consciencous about Indians  If you ask me though, I'd actually like to see Japanese, chinese, korean or somewhere like that Asians in the house versus an Indian person every two years or so. GREAT POST! It's the lack of consistency that bothers me. Conor got away VERY lightly with something he should have been kicked out for at the time. Caroline got away with her snide and bullying behaviour for WEEKS while Becky is as bad in her own way and has NEVER been reprimanded.
Now Scott (who as a rule doesn't bitch about HM's) has been given an official warning for making a fairly innocuous remark, and Ashleigh has been warned for 'excluding people, humiliating them and using sarcasm'!!!
OMG.
Meanwhile, BB humiliates Luke S, sets Adam up to be excluded by showing him giving opinions when he doesn't know the other HM's are watching etc etc....and BOTS gives a voice to people who frequently make fun of and ridicule the HM's every night non stop.
Make up your mind BB Channel 5.
I am personally dead against racism and bullying. But where BB is concerned this series they are all over the place and it's just a total mess. There seem to be no clear rules - it's a case of one HM can get away with murder but another can't.
What a ridiculous farce it is turning out to be.

Agree with a lot of the things said in this thread. BB has turned way too PC. Even anything that's borderline is being called out. It's ruining the show.

OMG.

it didnt seem that nasty by scott , his dad did actually own a restaurant it was an anecdote of sorts. if he had stopped short saying she eats with her hands it may be ok, but to generalize about all doing it is wrong, although when deana said that about men, no one said a thing, I was very offended by that

Yes, I think Scott was making an observation that he believed to be factual. I have Indian friends who eat with their hands all the time. Fact. I don't know if ALL Indians do this, but the ones I know do in my experience. I wouldn't take kindly to be branded as racist for saying so. If I was told not all Indians do this, then I would adjust my thinking. It's no big deal for God's sake.
I wonder if someone told Conor he must like potatoes because he's Irish would they be called racist.
And I happen to agree with you about what Deana said about men...but that's okay...being PC doesn't extent to men apparently.

Report half these people for offensive and insulting racist posts. I have seen half-a-dozen now 'dehumanizing' and referring to entirely different races of people as 'Asians'. In fact, I am sick of hearing this all over the UK.
Its very degrading and 'racist' as if somehow 'everyone east of Europe' are somehow all the 'those Asians'.
So Pakistanis and Japanese are now somehow 'those Asians'.
In North America and in China we refer to 'Asians' as (what evolutionists once called 'Mongoloids') but as Japanese, Chinese, Korean,
and,
Therefore, using my definition as the standard I have now worked out all you Brits saying 'Asians' are therefore RACISTS!
And now you have been warned about that racism and bigotry you ARE GUILTY of if you ever called everyone else 'asians'.
See how this works? Get this yet? See what I did? Well that is what YOU PC police are doing.

he didnt say they were different races? youre pretending to be offended imho, cheap shot:nono:
When did i say i was offended ?
I was just amazed that he was trying to prove the point that something wasn't offensive and/or racially stereotypical while bringing up a different racial stereotype himself.
He was clearly calling one race of people 'Asians' (which i'm assuming were actually Indians in this case) and another group as 'Chinese' when infact both races he was talking about were Asians.
It does really offend me though when people try to defend the unacceptably offensive/racially stereotypical behaviour of people like Ashleigh and Scott though!
If people didn't find that offensive or don't think what Ashleigh and Scott said was wrong then they clearly either didn't understand what they said or they must share their ignorant and racially stereotypical opinions.
I just added this bit as i noticed El Proximo's post just before mine.
He's made the very point i was referring to and he probably made it with greater clarity than i did. Nice work El Proximo!
I'm from the UK by the way and never refer to people as 'Asians' in this derogatory fashion so please don't think we're all that ignorant (a LOT are, but not all by any means).

The problem you have here on this post/request, apart from it being f..king rediculous, is that there are no defined rules on racism. FOR EXAMPLE....
BY THE WAY THIS IS AN EXAMPLE NOT A STATEMENT.....If I call a pakistani a P.ki, thats deemed as a racist remark, (SORRY ITS PRINTED THAT WAY BUT ITS OUTLAWED AS RUDE) If I call a person from Japan a JAP, thats offensive and racist. How about when everyone calls us BRITS. NOTICE NONE OF THE LAST 2 ANALOGIES WERE BLANKD OUT AS RUDE.

you have some Indian friends and a Japanese friend?! Congratulations. Doesn't mean that people from the same ethnic groups must be wrong when they try to correct offensive statements you make. You repeatedly tell us you are married and have been for 40yrs, but I am confident a poll as to who here would hypothetically like to be your life partner would open your eyes to how unattractive, angry, narrow-minded, and bilious you are coming across. I have nothing against your opinions about housemates, and fuel to a fire is brilliant for debate but the stereotyping and generalisations detract from the debate you wish to encourage.
For example, I like Deana and you clearly can't stand her. Were you to write "That cold-hearted calculating cow is manipulating others into behaviour that would show them up as villains to further her position as the nation's rescue puppy", I would gladly discuss this. However, were you to add on "like [enter ethnic minority here] always do to further their employability through the ridiculous concept of positive discrimination", I am no longer urged to discuss BB with you but want to discuss the generalisation you have associated with your main point. You are then left having to defend this position and the discussion ends up being about you and your views on race, gender and the like, which may not actually be how you really feel. This seems to be how a lot of threads have panned out.

Just my two penny's worth....
You are WRONG in your assertion that Asian's might use their hands to eat cereal... they DON'T.
I am Asian myself and obviously beyond my entire family being Asian and growing up entirely embraced by Asian culture/food eating habits, I have visited India at least 10 times in my life including a 6 month motorcycle journey across the country and another 3 month backback across Northern India as well so I am very familiar with Indian culture here in the UK and in India itself.
The general culture with eating with your hands is varied in the country, loosely in the north of the country they use round thin breads (like roti's / chapati's / nan's / & paratha's) and tear them up to eat the curry's with, which unlike what a lot of people in the UK experience are more often much drier and certainly not drenched in a sauce. The bread acts as a shield to the curry in affect, you could say it's similar to someone here not eating burger meat with their hands and using a bun to hold it with, which keeps there hands clean from the burger fat/juices as well as the ketchup & mayo... so India is similar to that by using the breads. In the south of the country they mainly use rice, which unlike what we here in the UK think of rice is more like a sticky rice which absorbs the curry sauces.
So yes in India they do use their hands, but it is done in a way which doesn't get your hands messy. I've had English friends come round my house for an Indian meal and see them tear up the breads and attempt to use them the way an Indian would and expectantly it has been initially quite messy, so like using chopsticks for the first time I guess you would need practice to get it quite right. So Indian's are quite adept at using their hands in a clean way.
With reference to eating cereals. Traditionally in Asia there isn't a culture of eating 3 meals a day as there is in the west, certainly with the poorer parts of the population. Usually people just had a lunch and dinner. Over time breakfast has become more popular and in the urban areas and is basically standard now to have 3 meals as we do. However quite commonly breakfast is
exactly the same as what people might have for lunch. In much of Asia people would just have a noodle soup for example for breakfast.
In India though they now have what is regarded as the world's biggest middle class and also the fastest growing middle class (which has a lot to do with their rapid economic growth) and cereal's have now become like here a simple quick and easy breakfast to have. Categorically EVERYONE eating cereal in India would use a spoon to do so. It would be as unexpected and shocking to see or hear of anyone not doing so there as it would be over here.
The really poor and perhaps rural population's would either not have a breakfast at all or would definitely still eat an Indian meal for breakfast, maybe something simple like a dhal (lentil curry) with either a roti or rice (depending which part of the country they were from).
Cereal's being a western introduction to the country would only be eaten by the more middle class people in India, with a more modern lifestyle and more income to. Similarly other new foods like pizza's, burgers etc would be eaten by the middle classes only. The traditional poorer rural population would still have a more traditional Indian diet.
The only equivalent traditional Indian food that I can think of to a cereal would be the dessert Rasmalai...
http://www.spicytasty.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/rasamalai5.jpg
... which comes in a milk like sauce and again is always eaten with a spoon in India. Other common desserts like Kulfi (an Indian type of icecream) which is very popular there again is served with a small flat type of spoon (similar to a chip fork here, but with slight indentation's).
So, yeah as I was saying, this is my two penny's worth on that issue... and I can say for sure that you are wrong in your point that you made.
A quick add.... There is nothing wrong with Scott and Ashleigh raising the issue of Indian's eating with their hands if done in the manner of a conversation. In the west it's very common to use your hands as well (Ribs, Corn-on-the-cob, Burgers, Fries, Pizza's, Crisps etc.) but the way that they said it was wrong. It came across as being made in a derogatory way, which makes it offensive, and BB were right to bring them up on it.

Agreed. Seriously. With all these "warnings" over the slightest little thing, Big Brother is essentially manipulating how the housemates act. I want to see them be "real" and act as they normally would, not be sheeps and act as Big Brother deems "acceptable". That's not the point of the show. If someone is a racist/nasty/bullying, then the public won't vote for them and they'll be evicted. That right there should be the punishment. And if the public doesn't choose to evict them, then that's just the nature of the game. I'd like to give Big Brother a warning tbh, stop trying to manipulate how the housemates act.

I guess so. I'm just curious to know the legal ramifications and power of ofcom. I mean, obviously Channel 5 can't control what comes out of peoples mouths, nor should they really. It's a reality TV show afterall, people who watch are well aware of that. So really, what can ofcom do? The mods on here are very good, if its a debate were 2 are bantering and its 50 50, they dont get involved but if a post comes up with similar language with zero provocation, you get clouted. Dizzy and myself get nailed regularly but like her I wont back away from self opinionated one liner lazy PC cyber warriors. We generally have fun with vinegar attached but it goes both ways. its give and take if within boundaries.
I got a crazy infraction today !!!!!!!

They made far to big a deal of it than they should of. As far as Im aware commenting on or discussing other cultures is not a crime.
If you really believe that's all they were doing then you're either being purposely blinkered or you just don't understand the situation.
It was not a conversation about other people's cultures, it was a clear and blatant attempt to niggle at and take cheap and offensive digs at Deana's racial background.
I got a crazy infraction today !!!!!!!
I'm very glad that you did. It's well overdue in my opinion!
