View Full Version : It's time to call it a day with Big Brother

Watching the latest series of Big Brother and thinking back to all the previous series of BB incl the CBB series a thought occurred to me that we are definitely in the twilight years of this once fine programme. A series that over the years has given us so many memorable moments now seems to be just going through the motions. How many of if we were brutally honest would admit that this latest series has been nothing short of a disaster, with the BB chiefs breaking every rule in the book to keep audience figures high and the phone votes coming in , it's really only a money making device and if I'm honest I watch it more out of a sense of nostalgia.

BB has run its course and maybe it's time to turn the lights off once and for all...!!! Your thoughts ????

Mostly positive replies, perhaps I've underestimated the mood of the Big Brother audience. Maybe I should have posed the question what makes for an enjoyable Big Brother series.

Perhaps people are actually happy to watch a programme that imprisons a dozen or so people for up to 77 days making them jump through hoops for the publics entertainment. Perhaps any noble thoughts about a social experiment or psycho social exercise is long gone, and all we really like is watching those HM go slowly mad for a £100K.

Bring it on......!!!!!!!

Some loathsome house-mates, but still one of the better series in recent times.

I think it will go completely downhill from next year, my expectations are very low for next year's series.

Yeah, it's going to be really hard to get this again. The housemates carried most of it, plus some good tasks. But BB have been dicks most of the time and so many characters got evicted.

And now folks seriously I kid you not its 10.51 and one of the HM ( Luke S) has taken out his left testicle on National T.V and is showing it to all the other HM, well I'm pretty speechless, over 75 years of Television, thousands of programmes costing Millions of pounds covering every topic under the Sun, and what do we have to show for it all, some nomark getting his Balls out for Millions of people to see ( incl his whole family).

DO I REALLY NEED TO SAY ANYMORE.......!!!!!!!!!!!

I am enjoying it, but this person is right. There are so many moments with Big brother that are TV gold and are very well known, like Nicki Grahame. There hasn't really been anything in the last two series. I AM enjoying it though. I just think they need to stop trying to transform the show into TOWIE. Stop it with the editing. Go back to the gritty format it had before moving to channel 5. It feels trashy sometimes now.

I was thinking this just today that BB hasnt really since BB7 actually produced a moment which will go down in TV history-Remeber Nasty Nick being confronted, Alex Sibley dancing behind the door, Bedsit/Fight night, Kinga and the bottle, Makosi's fake pregnany, Nikki's who is she, Grace throwing the water over Suzie? maybe because we have seen it all before? or the housemate selection is poor? I dont know there are just no stand out moments anymore.

I think this series has had plenty of stand-out moments but the problem is with hardly any viewers compared to previous years it's not really the same because it'll only be remembered on here.

I don't think they're amazing moments, but lots of people say that Mikey (from BB9) eating a "Scotch bonnet" and Mikey being hit on the head by a ball, are stand out moments.

I think it is because the day to day house and tasks are planned by weak people. When that woman comes on to talk about the tasks you just know why BB has gone down hill. She sounds sbout six years old.
The tasks are pathetic and they get too many treats. No challenge at all.
The money to be won should be changed. They should have to earn a certain amount of money each week. No one housemate should be able to win the total.

BB can only ever be as good as the housemates it has in the house, this year there has been in my view a really good selection of housemates, however the series tone was ruined from the outset by allowing them to talk about nominations for the first 2 to 3 weeks.

However, there is still good entertainment value with most of who is left in the house and this series is also near unique in that for a lot of people there are no real clear certainties as to a winner and also many people like a number of the housemates and don't have a real clear favourite.

I hope it's not in its twilight years, it has until 2014 to go and I hope they have realised that the talking of noms in the early weeks was big mistake, that maybe can be done nearer the end of a series for a week maybe but not all through and not in the early part of a series.

So for me, this series though not the best I have watched, is still good and entertaining and has me watching it still, as I say I hope BB goes on and on and well past the 2014 mark too.

hes a right to express an opinion on the matter, my opinion is 1) you didnt contribute to this thread you just tried to put down the poster and 2) the book is great, the idea is great, the show in theory has infinite potential , but........the show has gone downhill purely because the producers are spineless cowards who always go for the lowets common denominator entertainment...their selection of housemates is the main problem, shallow one dimensional self centred wannabee, uber bores....they dont even bother smattering the house with a few normal folks or genuine eccentrics, just desperate wannabees........if they change their approach, the show could survive, but weve been hoping for that for years

Yes because thats far worse than back in the day when Jade sucked off PJ and got naked on the couch, Nadia and Michelle naked wrestling, Kinga shoving a bottle up her vag and Sam fingering herself in the box task.

Its tame to what it used to be, its just you and the rest of the audience have become to pc.

The longer it has gone on, the more foregettable they are. Nobody I know is remotely interested anymore, they are more into rubbish like 'superstar'! Even the winner will be forgotten in a week, only to re-surface in time for next year's guest BOTS appearance...if there is a next year. There have been some decent characters this year, good and bad, but still the ratings are around 1.2/1.3 miilion....about what doctors or neighbours in an afternoon gets. It has all been done before, the housemates are too knowing. It is now up to C5 to see if they will rely on the hard core rump of an audience to keep it going.

I haven't missed an episode of BB since it started and I love the show just as much as I did in the first series. BB never fails to put a smile on my face and make me laugh. I also love seeing the physiological effects the games and house have on the housemates.

I don't like this series and I stopped watching a couple weeks ago, but I definitely don't think it should be axed. Other people are enjoying it, and BB still has a lot of potential. The only good housemates that brought something unique to the house were Benedict, Lydia, and Caroline. This series feels very seen-it-all-before.

As the show evolves for a changing audience, there will be missteps along the way.

In this series, IMO, the BB producers screwed up by allowing nom discussions, which led immediately to alliances forming rather quickly, only to cut off the nom discussions thereafter. What remained turned into The Insiders group who have run the house for weeks.

BB needs to either allow or deny nom discussions for the complete series, not half & half.
