I don't understand this story. the idea that juist because yur grandmother was jewish that makes you a jew, that's horrible.

Jewish is a religion, not a race. There is nothing hereditary about a religion. Religion is a choice.

This man is despicable for his views, but to say he's a hypocrite just because he has jewish ancestors, is wrong.

It's like saying someone that was born and raised Catholic is a hypocrite for speaking out against the Catholic church.

He has every right to speak out against any religion he likes, and just because his grandmother was of that religion does not mean he can't criticize it.

People are trying to racialize religion, but religion is not a race. Just like if someone criticizes Islam they are called "racist" but Muslim is not a race, so how is it racist??

I was raised Catholic and i have every right to criticize Catholicism all I like, I also criticize Judaism and Islam and it doesn't make me a hypocrite or a racist.

Everyone is an individual. Who his ancestors were is of no consequence. If the man chooses not to be a Jew, then he is not a Jew.

It's a race and religion. And it has to come from the Mothers side.

It's part of the religion to believe that if your mother was a Jew, then you are too.

I uphold his right to be a vile, racist, anti-Semitic pig. However, to call Jews lice-ridden vermin, and to find out he's one too is just too sweet for words.

that's the same argument some people use against Obama Livia, because in Muslim law if your father is a Muslim then his son is a MUslim, that is why people say Obama is TECHNICALLY a muslim.

Obviously this guy's politics are abhorent, and he is a bigot. but trying to say he is a Jew just because his grandmother was a Jew?? that's wrong. It's no different than the people who say Obama is a Muslim just because his father is a Muslim.

I don't know about that, I know virtually nothing about the Muslim religion. It's not an argument, it's an intrinsic part of my religion. It is what we believe. If you're not a Jew there is no need for you to believe it, so there really is nothing to discuss.

Well believing in something doesn't make it true. If the guy identifies as christian then he is christian, he's not a jew. and having ancestors that were jewish, well don't all christians have ancestors that were jews? jesus christ himself was a jew, the original christians, the disciples were all jews, so having jewish ancestry doesn't make someone any less christian.

All christians still use and believe in the old testament which is a jewish text. so having jewish ancestry has nothing to do with you being a christian or not.

If that's what you believe, than that's fine. However, putting aside the fact that we believe if your Grandmother was a Jew, you are too... can you imagine how sweet it feels for a Jew to hear that someone like him, someone so full of hate, has Jewish family? Knowing how humiliated he will be knowing his blood is not pure? That he isn't the "Aryan" he thought he was? And whether he believes the decendancy thing or not, we do. And he knows that we do. And it's enough.

I don't know why it would be "sweet". If he's a jew, he's a very very hateful jew. So what does it say about jews, if you consider him to be a jew, that he is spreading this kind of hate?

It's like when a conservative republican is super homophobic, spreads tons of hate against gays, and then you find out that he has been sleeping with men, and is gay himself. Do i think that is "sweet" as a gay man?? no i don't. It makes me very very sad as a gay man.

So i don't know why you as a jew, would find it "sweet" to see a jew doing the same thing.

The whole point lostalex is he didn't know he was a Jew...

In the article it says the first time he was confronted about it, he immediatly tried to bribe someone into not revealing it. his first response wasn't to say "that's crazy, F off" his first response was "how much can i pay you to keep this quiet", so i think he did know, and obviously this type of hateful belief system comes from the family, his family of course knew. My family is only 2 generations from conversion, like his, and we all know. We all know that my dad's grandparents were jews that converted to catholilicism, and that my mom's family were anglican. Families don't just FORGET things like that.

I find it sweet because he's a full-blown, Jew-hating nazi. Now it turns out his family suffered at the hands of people like him in concentration camps. His own family - beaten, starved, humiliated, murdered. Perhaps it will make him understand that he is the same today as he was yesterday. He is the same man now as he was before he knew about his Jewish heritage. Is he a bad man now, in his own eyes? Is he less than he was before he was considered to be a Jew? No. He is the same. We are all the same. We just believe in different things, and that is not a reason to hate and to persecute.

I think it says more about the political system in Hungary than it does about this individual man, that someone can use jew-hating as a political platform, because they know it will get votes, just like republicans use homophobia to get votes. The issue of anti-Semitism in Hungary seems to be glossed over in this story. Instead the issue of just one man having jewish ancestry and the perceived hypocrisy is the story. Shouldn't the fact that anti-semetism is so acceptable in Hungarian politics to begin with be the REAL story?

Some people are dispicable. I don't think it's too much to hope for that one day, people will realise that hate isn't the strongest emotion.

Anti-Semitism is not a new thing in Eastern Europe, and the rising tide of neo-Nazis in Europe, and mainly in Eastern Europe, has had quite a wide press over here.

This story reminds me of that Dan Burros guy, he was a really prominent neo-Nazi who killed himself after it was made public that he was Jewish, there was a good film based on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Burros

or the episode where he is racist against gingers, and says gingers have no soul, so kyle and stan sneak into his bedroom and dye his hair red and give him freckles, and then he wakes up as a Ginger, and starts a "ginger revolution" lol
