View Full Version : Syd Barrett is dead.
Syd Barrett, the co-founder of Pink Floyd has died, aged 60. He truly was a legend in his own lifetime. R.I.P. Syd.
He had Aspergers, didn't he? Sad loss for music fans all over the world.

Very sad news...
Remember when you were young,
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon,
You cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night,
And exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome
With random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Nobody knows where you are,
How near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers
And I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow
Of yesterday's triumph,
And sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child,
You winner and loser,
Come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!
Shine on you crazy diamond - Pink Floyd's tribute to Syd.

Just listened to this on the way into work James
Syd may have had what is now classed as Aspergers syndrome (wouldn't have been in his time0 but most of all his story was one of mental illness precipitated in all probability by experimental drug use. Much like Peter Green of the original Fleetwood Mac.
There were those who were direct casualties like Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin etc, and then those who were destroyed more slowly - eg Moon and Cobain - and there are those like Syd and Peter whose lives were totally altered.
There are a few who survive showing signs of wear and tear

Overall though, it's just sad. Watch out Mr Doherty

A true rock hero. RIP.
As for Pete Doherty- he does seem to be getting his act together- or so I gathered from his Ross interview last week.
