are they good or bad?
I guess that depends, if you work for some of the big corporations or governments they could be seen as almost a lawless enemy.
But they also seem to stand up for the powerless, challenge law makers, and confront injustices.
I like them, they've played quite a big part along with wikileaks in trying to keep governments more accountable to the public and to expose their wrongdoings and the stuff they don't want people to know. They also launch attacks on big corporations when they're exploiting people and are quite strongly opposed to racism and discrimination. Sometimes maybe they take it too far and are a bit of a nuisance but for the most part I respect a lot of what they do

while 4chan (where it originated) is kindof like the toilet of the internet (coming from someone on a Big Brother forum) I think what they do is really awesome.

The best description i have read compared them to the nerdy kids whose playground was the internet and eventually they got sick of the bullys and punched one back and realised holy cow we are strong as hell!
the one they really punched back at first was scientology for threatening to sue anybody that reposted a video of tom cruise saying he has superpowers because he is a Scientologist :joker: overnight they shut down every scientology website on the net and began exposing fraud, murders, crimes and intimidation tactics employed by them making them more of a complete laughing stock than they already were and demonstrations on the streets lasting that led to them being banned and scientology reclassifieded as a cult in some countrys.

All the way to an ongoing operation today #OpPedochat where over a year ago anonymous handed over a list of pedophile websites and IP addresses of users to the FBI who told them we cant do anything with this information we need names, addresses and payment details (disgraceful inadequacy) so a year later Anonymous after initially showing their disgust went back and did their job for them and infiltrated, hacked and returned with so far the names of the people running around 100 sites, the names of over 9000 paedophiles with their personal details and supplied them to the FBI which if they do their job now should put an end to the biggest paedophile ring ever uncovered.
Whats not to like?
They are no angels and some of their tactics have been cruel in the past but they consist of every walk of life they arent a set group of people they are everyone that uses the internet everyone that wants to be is Anonymous if anyone has an idea if enough people like the idea then it gets done.
Its not hard to find someone from Anonymous to talk to everyone is Anonymous if they want to be.
There is a movie about the history of Anonymous due out some time later this year which should be interesting here is a trailer.

Well i personally don't like the idea of someone putting viruses on my computer and using my computer for their attacks. That's what they do, they use millions of innocent poeple's computers to do their attacks, and i don't hink that's right.
I often agree with their cause, and understand why they are attacking certain organizations, businesses etc.... but i dont agree with their methods

who told you they do that! if you are talking about hivemind it is voluntary and nobody is tricked into taking part.
Their attacks are usually the DDOS type attacks, which use millions of unaware people's computers to attack one site and overload their servers. That's how they usually attack. I don't think it's right to use people's computers who arn't aware for their cause.
If they only used people who signed up for it then that would be okay, but they don't, they use random innocent people's computers in their attacks.

so then why did you say just a few posts up that "nobody is tricked into it", yes they are, many people's computers are being hacked into and being used for attacks that they are unaware of. why did you deny it?
protesting is fine in my opinion, but hijacking people that have no interest in the protest, subjecting thousands of people to legal action and persecution that have nothing to do with it, that's just wrong.
If Anonymous wants to do something, they should do it based on a moral code, hijacking others for their cause is wrong. It negates their own cause by forcing others to do their bidding when they claim to be fighting for more individual freedoms.
If Anonymous can't even hold themselves to the same moral codes that they are trying to hold governments to, or businesses to, then why should we listen to them?

Your attitude isnt conducive to any continued debate your defensive insecuritys arent of interest to me anymore it is just become tiresome now.
The fact you see someone concede a little ground to try and open an avenue of discussion as a chance to attack is either low or really naive either way dont bother you really disappoint me.

bob, you are being ridiculous now. you are the definition of 1 step forward, 2 steps back.
You choose style over substance. I've seen your patronizing and demeaning posts to everyone that dares challenge you on anything. You act like you want to discuss serious issues, but the minute anyone challenges you, you act offended and revert back to being dismissive and patronizing.
It's unfortunate, because a lot of the issues you raise I am interested in.
