I'm missing the meaning of Julian's slang term for The Sitch.
WTF is an occasional table? How does it apply to Mike?
Someone please explain.
(No, I'm not a big Mike fan -- I just don't get it)

An occasional table is kinda an umblrella term for other types of tables, like coffee tables or bedside tables.
And as to why he calls him that, I'm not sure I think he might have linked it with the randomness of someone being called The Situation.
And he just used Occasional Table because it popped into his head, also it is easier to insult someone when you begin to think of them as an object rather than a person.
I think it is rude of Julian to do it.

Julian Clary is this supposedly really witty guy yet it's stuff like this and "The White Swallow" that he comes up with, what makes it worse is that "The Occasional Table" is actually catching on. :idc:

Term: The Occasional Table
Definition: An old has-been filled with jealousy attempting to be amusing

I think it refers to something as occasional as "not all there". Basically Julian thinks The Situation is a bit dense. Although occasionally he has his moments. Not very often though...

I assumed it to mean something that's just "there" and is quite pointless.

That's a better way of explaining it.

Based on what Julian has been saying, this makes more sense.

I think he has created the term "occasional table" as a play on the word "situation". I think the idea may have been that he (Sitch) is so insignificant that he couldn't amount to a situation maybe only part of a situation. So if a situation equates to a significant event , an occasional table is a small insignificant event ie The Sitch.
I don't really see a real connection between these two words, I think Julian has made very loose somewhat tenuous connection here, probably done on the spur of the moment.
In fact I don't think it's even that funny, but he seems to be sticking with the phrase. Hopefully when he comes out he can explain his thought processes.

The fact that no one is entirely sure what he means suggests that it is pretty much a fail.

Thats probably why everyone is talking about it, why we have threas about it and why its trending. The best definition I think of it circulates around the fact that an occassional table is a name given to a piece of furniture that has little or no use, obviously his thoughts on The Situation.
By the same point Julian Clary could be called a POE. this is an old Northern Irish name given to the potty under the bed, or an impliment that had its uses in times gone by, a little like Julian, lol.

He's basically saying he has very little use in the house.

The name occasional table is no more silly than the name The Situation and imo occasional table sounds better and more fitting.

I think the poor washed up 'comedian' has a crush on the Sitch and everytime he tries to do something to say "Hey Mike, I'm over here, slagging you off so you'll notice me", Mike is like "What, sorry, who are you again?"

Some people don't get him BD, and think that their lack of comprehension reflects on him, instead of recognising that it actually reflects on them.

An occasional table is in the periphery of a room , it is not useful very often, sometimes doesn't match other furniture so can look ugly, the situation sounds quite dynamic , in the moment centre stage.

What has age got to do with it. I dont get your point, please explain.

So to recap an occasional table is a small ugly thing of no importance that sits in the corner of a room not really offering anything to anybody.
Well..!!! I'd say Julian had got it almost spot on...!!!!!!

I have a kitchen table with more personality than Mike. Although their comprehension skills are about equal.
