It must make sense
to stop bullying etc.

Even if it stops a child being beat up?

I think it's a good idea, it will make kids feel safer. The bullies will get caught a lot easier and hopefully punished.

Thats not the issue, it's theft..
I don't agree with cameras in toilets.

why not Kiz, what's the problem with them??
What about the paedophiles
The bullies will just find somewhere else to carry out their bullying anyway :idc:

I have a mixed view but overall support it. I don't like the continuous rolling out of cctv but when I was at school and I was at an all boys school, although I wasn't bullied myself, I and my friends found that the toilets and changing area was where the worst bullying took place.
If the toilet and changing areas cannot have a permanent monitoring by an individual then maybe cctv is the way to help control and deal with bullying and in fact other things too such as abuse or even drug taking.
I'd rather know all measures were being done to prevent children suffering anything at school,(other than hard work as to their lessons and workload).
This seems a good move to me so I would support it for those reasons I have given.

We had cameras on school buses when i was growing up, that was in the 90's.
I don't see how cameras would really help in the bathroom though, cause you'd need people to actually be watching those cameras, wouldn't it make more sense to just have a monitor in the bathrooms between periods?

it's not like they're planning to put the cameras in the cubicle. If it stops bullying, thieving, shagging, smoking... all the things that kids do in school toilets, then really, what's the problem?

if the cameras arn't in the cubicles then how would it stop it anything?
they'll just go into the cubicle. They should hire some security people and they can monitor the bathrooms. I'm sure there are some older people retired who would like some part time work, they could do it.

I think alex has a point, instead of costly camera equipment, the maintainance and storage of such sensitive material. Use a monitor at the schools where bullying/drug use is an issue?
Or keep the facility locked inbetween regular break times?

We always had a teacher in the loos at breaktimes to make sure nothing went on.
Didnt work totally though, people still smoked in the cubicles and that. But we didnt get fights in the toilets.

I worked briefly for a further education college when I finished uni while I decided what I wanted to do next. I was mugged in a toilet by a gang of teenage girls who wanted my jewellery. After I'd given it to them, they beat me savagely, smashed my head on the sink and left me unconscious and bleeding on the floor, calmly pushing the fire-alarm bell as they left so that no one found me for ages. Put the cameras in the toilets that need them in there and stop pussyfooting around people's sensibilities.

yes, but not in the actual cubicles

oh and my friends tried to set fire to the toilets in the last day of primary school  so that's another reason, to stop vandalism

If a camera was trained on the door and zoomed in at face level, the time on the display would positively identify any individual coming out in cases of assault?

Yes Livia they were Evil.
I am glad you got through that.

I wouldn't mind doing a few hours a day monitoring the girls bathrooms .....

Unfortunately not. I spent a long time with the police when I recovered going through books full of faces but I'd been unconscious for a while, it was all a bit of a blur. If there had been a camera there it would all have been so much easier. In fact, if there'd been a camera there they probably wouldn't have done it.

The soloution could be dummy cameras, and lots of warning CCTV in operation signs?
How would they know they were inactive?
