View Full Version : Big Sister
Do you think its sexist that they called it big brother?
I mean men rule the world as it is, so why not make it slightly more equal, and call it big sister.
Yeah it is sexist! Right on sister

The phrase 'Big Brother' was born before the gameshow that we're talking about. So it's tradition not sexism.

The name 'Big Brother' come from the book 1984. From the libe 'Big Brother is watching you.' That the only reason its called Big Brother - It was originally gonna be called Red Alert or something like that.

Big Brother is a term used for an over-seeing person and from the book 1984 which is an excellent book indeed! I've always looked at it like say, you are a big brother (older brother) and you have to watch over your younger brother/sister. But of course it can go to far and end up something like the BB house or as in George Orwell's book, the whole world

It is Big Brother because of an immensely famous book 1984
And were living in a big brother world [C.C.T.V] on every damn corner of your nearest City.
And it doesn't sound as [threatening] as big sister lets face it.

It's not dull, it's a great book IMO. The phrase 'Big Brother is watching you' was well known before this show. It's not sexist at all.
