View Full Version : Jake Bugg brags about knocking Leona off the top spot

Jake Bugg has said that it is his job to keep "X Factor sh*t" away from the top of the charts.

The singer-songwriter beat former X Factor champion Leona Lewis to the number one album spot yesterday (October 21) with his self-titled debut record.

"I guess it proves my point – people still want to hear guitar music. It's my job to keep that X Factor sh*t off the top of the charts," he told NME.

Bugg knocked Mumford & Sons' Babel off the top to number two, while Leona Lewis's third studio album Glassheart debuted at three.

After Rita Ora's number one album in early September, the subsequent artists to reach the top spot have all been guitar-based acts: The Vaccines, The xx, The Killers, Mumford & Sons, Muse and now Jake Bugg.

Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe tweeted after Bugg's win: "Massive congratulations to @JakeBugg - music wins."

Now I'm not really much of a fan of Leona but who does this little dog think he is gloating like that? He won't last long with that attitude. I didn't even know who he was until yesterday. Anyway his album didn't even sell that many copies so there's nothing to really brag about :nono:

He still sold more then Leona who's had more exposure and publicity then he ever has. The fact he beat her with such low sales is more of an embarrassment for her than him. I think his comment is fair, only two decent acts have come out from the X Factor in recent years and that's Little Mix and Rebecca Ferguson (boring but pleasant enough).

Acting like he's the saviour of music against X Factor with those low album sales.... Cher debuted at #4 and still managed 20k more than him.

Probably a pointed question from the NME journalist, since that particular publication has a warped view of what 'real music' is: what's cool and what lads are talking about.

Still... I haven't listened to the album so can't comment on him. But this reeks of arrogance.

He's still top 3 on iTunes which is nice to see. Thought he would probably fall away after first week and Leona would probably sell more, but looks like she's vanished and he's maintained some downloads. Good for him.

No idea who Jake Bugg is, and maybe what he said was a bit arrogant of him. I have never really rated Leona Lewis that much, so don't get her hype. Everyone to their own though. Her singing voice whilst probably good just bores me as does she, she has little presence about her imo. However, it can't be denied that even if sales were poorish, his album still outsold hers, that appears a fact.

I've already said Leona's sales were underwhelming. Leonas albums better anyways. She just released a bad lead single & all the radios snubbed her.

Are you dumb? Everyone knows Leona sells very well with physical copies. On Itunes shes like #30 combined, yet shes #6 in the midweeks.

Ergh don't get me started. It's just strange that you can't breathe a bad word about her when he is online.

Also I wasn't refering to Leona as mass-produced, I was refering to the industry in general, but do carry on!
