James Blunt has called time on his musical career, saying he wants to "take more time for himself".

Blunt, 38, sold 11m copies of his breathrough album 'Back To Bedlam' in 2005 aided by the worldwide hit 'You're Beautiful'. However, it seems that the former Queen's guard, who saw action in Kosovo, has no interest in maintaining his career as a musician and recently told The Daily Mail that he has no further plans to write music. Speaking to a reporter from the paper, Blunt said:

"I just want to take some time out for myself. I haven’t got any plans to do more songwriting. I have been chilling out since I finished my world tour and I’ve spent a lot of time in Ibiza, where I have a villa."

Blunt's most recent album, 'Some Kind Of Trouble', was released in 2010.

The singer last hit the headlines in January when his mother defended him from the criticism he often receives for being posh, saying that the music industry was "snobbish".

"I was most interested to hear Pete Waterman's thoughts on public school rock stars," Jane Blount said in an email to Radio 4. "His attitude is reflected by most of the critics in the UK. My son James Blunt, who is hugely appreciated worldwide, receives harsh criticism here and we have, rather sadly, been aware that it is because of his background."

I go through phases with him. Some months I love his music then other months I can't stand it. Shame we have to lose musicians like him yet **** like Rita Ora and Cheryl Cole stick around.

^^ His second album was #1 all over the world in 2007 and went 2 time platinum here. And he released a third in 2010 that was #4 over here.

Anyway, he hasn't retired afterall :)

Has James Blunt Quit Music For Good?

No.

Although, he did tell the Mail, in the safe, confidential enclosure of a nightclub launch party, that he was looking to take a break after a gruelling world tour, and that he hadn’t got around to writing any new songs yet, so clearly that’s the same as giving up forever.

James was speaking to a journalist at the opening of Barbarella in London’s well-to-do Fulham, and clearly did not want to spend a long time talking shop, not while he could be having a drink and a dance with his girlfriend Sofia. So, he pretended there isn’t going to be a shop any more.

He said: “I just want to take some time out for myself. I haven’t got any plans to do more songwriting. I have been chilling out since I finished my world tour and I’ve spent a lot of time in Ibiza, where I have a villa.”

Hands up who knew he would mention his villa in Ibiza (where he has a villa)? Yep. That’s everyone. Oh and he’s got a yacht too. Let’s see how long he goes without mentioning that: “Sofia and I had a great time hanging out with friends on my yacht but we partied as well.”

And then, being a true pro, he brought the topic back to the matter in hand, and swanned off: “I do like a good night out and that is why it’s great fun to hang out at Barbarella. London needs more nightclubs like this.”

BOOM! Suddenly we have a “pop star quits” story on our hands. Well, let’s see who’s right, shall we?

Note: It’s me. I’m right.
