A television actor has been charged with the rape of a teenage boy.

The actor, who has not been named, allegedly attacked the 14-year-old at a theatre in the London area.

He is also accused of three other sex attacks and an "assault by beating" at a London school, Scotland Yard said.

The actor will appear in court on 6 November.

I wonder who?

:conf:

I suppose if he is tried and found not guilty, the newspapers that have splashed his name across their pages will publish a full and frank apology. About two lines at the bottom of page 25. This is the trouble... as soon as the press publish a name, people forget that he may have been charged, but he has not been tried.

I don't see why they should have to apologise merely for stating a fact, as long as they don't publish loads of libellous articles

Agreed. Interesting to hear some people like The Sun because it doesn't bore them like other papers, that is probably because The Sun is not factual a lot of the time and they strive for "controvesy" even if it isn't real to hook those people in. It can do a lot of damage.

Yeah, phone hacking, Hillsborough, Rupert Murdoch - a real top-class newspaper. Journalism at its finest.

None of the papers you listed are good papers, they're tabloids. Stop being spoon-fed bullsh*t because it's a quick read, looks pretty and is full of 'drama'. That doesn't constitute a good newspaper, in fact it's quite the opposite. While it may well be all fine and dandy for you to get your morning's gossip, people's lives and reputations are being ruined at the expense of tabloid newspapers like The Sun who are permitted to run articles demonising individuals or groups of people and whipping up moral panics which have absolutely no positive effect on society whatsoever.

Throwing the police off their hunt for her and giving her parents false hope because her mobile messages were still active.

Actually Bob, I think it's well on topic. It weaves back to the fact that the tabloids will release all the juicy "facts" about a case so that people can devour them to satiate their need for a constant drip-feed of celebrity gossip. And when a case involving a celebrity finally gets in front of a jury, the sheep that read the tabloids, some of which will unfortunately make up that jury, will have found him guilty already. The British press are a bloody disgrace.

The British press have for years been used to peddle political ideology, the sun massively and to great effect!
News corp with their 'true blue' leanings and 'hackafact' approach to journalism are used as a means of social control.
But to report on an issue that may have a grain of truth in it?....No! surely not...
