"Ex-Labour minister Denis MacShane to be suspended from the Commons for ONE YEAR after claiming expenses on 19 fake invoices

For three years the Rotheram MP created invoices from the European Policy Institute worth £12,900 to pay for him to travel around Europe
Bills were signed with a 'nom de plume' purporting to come from a General Manager who did not in fact exist
He also claimed for eight computers, including a laptop which he let an intern keep when they stopped working for him
Committee on Standards and Privileges delivers damning verdict: 'This is so far from what would be acceptable in any walk of life'
MP also criticised for failing to co-operate with parliamentary inquiry
Labour says the 64-year-old's career is 'effectively over'

If a benefits claimant had defrauded the system of 12k, they might be locked up for it. If nothing else they would be made to pay it back and would have a criminal record for life.

This tit gets a 12 month suspension from work.

All in this together, yeah right

Good to see quick action but I find it amazing this wasn't dealt with properly at the original expenses investigations before.
I'd go further than suspend him from Parliament for 12 months,(likely on his salary still too), it should be that these issues are dealt with by removing the offending MP from Parliament altogether.

Having said that though, certain MPs,like Lib Dem David Laws for example, can be not only welcomed back to Parliament after fiddling expenses but can be promoted to a Junior Ministerial position. Unbelievable or at least it should be.

It makes me sick... I should maybe stop being surprised by these things?

Glad he is gone, that is how any of them should go if found to be fiddling expenses.
