View Full Version : ITV This Morning : "appropriate disciplinary action" has been taken

David Cameron has warned against public child abuse allegations turning into a "witch-hunt" against gay people.
The prime minister made his comment on ITV1's This Morning programme as he was handed a list of names circulating online as paedophiles.
Mr Cameron, who did not look at the names, said anyone with any information about paedophiles should go to the police.
Presenter Philip Schofield told the prime minister that there were lots of allegations circulating online about people who might have carried out abuse.
Mr Cameron said that he had heard "all sorts of names being bandied around".
During the live interview, the presenter handed the PM a card with the names on it, saying that they were people Mr Cameron knew and asking whether he would be talking to them.
Mr Cameron replied with a warning: "There is a danger, if we're not careful, that this could turn into a sort of witch-hunt, particularly against people who are gay and I'm worried about the sort of thing you are doing right now - giving me a list of names that you've taken off the internet."
Why is CAMERON publicly linking paedos and gays?
Is he trying to deflect attention away from gay members of Tory administrations, past and present, who may have, also, at some time, been child-abusers?

Quite an odd thing to say.
Even if a few had made that link, most will not have...but now they will. Its kinda like being told 'do not think of your left big toe'. People then think of their toe.

No the PM is saying
take it to the Police.
You can not take a list of the Internet
as every name has to be dealt by Police.
One is a Conservative Lord
the Police are looking into to him.
Ch4News showed a Man who was then a Child (1980's)
he says the Conservative MP sent cars for him
he says he was raped.
The Police are looking into that.

TBH, whilst it is an odd comment he is kind of right.
If this escalates into a "witch hunt" then plenty innocent people are going to be dragged down and anything that might remotely work 'against' them will be called into question. Unfortunately, that includes gay people.

This guy is a moron as what have gays got to do with this? because not all paedophiles are gay so if that's the point his trying to make then he is well off the mark.
Although he does have a point about random accusations being thrown around at celebrities.
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2012/11/08/david-cameron-criticised-over-gay-witch-hunt-remarks/
Peter Tatchell said: “It is regrettable that David Cameron has inadvertently reinforced the prejudice that associates gay people with child sex abuse.
“There is no reason why he should link the current scandals with gay people or warn of an anti-gay witch-hunt. The current investigations concern paedophilia, not homosexuality.
“Homosexuality and paedophilia are two very different sexual attractions. Gay people are not paedophiles.”
Stonewall, Britain’s largest gay rights charity, also criticised the prime minister’s remarks.
Director of public affairs Ruth Hunt said: “Speculation about the identity of those involved in child abuse which erroneously conflates sexual orientation with paedophilia does nothing to support the victims of abuse and is unequivocally harmful to gay people."
:idc:
Streisand effect - bringing more attention to something by trying to ward away from it. Nobody was thinking it until he said it. On the other hand, why is he being lambasted by Stonewall and other people when his comment was very much trying to make sure people didn't carry out a witch hunt? Yeah he put his foot in it but he was trying to help... also think Philip Schofield/whoever told him to do what he did was highly out of order.

ITV said "appropriate disciplinary action" had been taken after a presenter inadvertently broadcast a list of names of alleged child abusers taken from the internet.
Lord McAlpine's solicitor Andrew Reid confirmed ITV's This Morning programme would be sent a letter.
In a statement on Thursday, ITV said it had investigated the "mistake" and that "appropriate disciplinary action" had been taken.
It added: "We sincerely apologise because the way in which the issue was raised was clearly wrong and should have been handled differently."

What he did wat totally counterproductive for those trying to get justice for victims of abuse. He actually managed to lose those affected public support..
What the heck was he thinking, to be fair the producers and others involved in the show would have been aware of this 'presentation' to the PM.

Interesting to me that Philip Schofield hasn't been made to personally ,on air, apologise to the viewers for his extremely bad presenting that day and also to publicly apologise to the PM too for ambushing him with that list too.
Even pressing the PM to say had he seen those names and would he be talking to any of them.
All we got was an apology from Schofield read out by Ruth the next day since friday is Philip's and Holly's day off.
Quite frankly for me, he could on screen do the ambush and try to look clever with the PM, so since it was clearly wrong of him to do so, then he should,at the very least, apologise himself, directly on screen too.

he didnt even apologise for the witch hunt or for encouraging innocent people to be targetted and destroyed , he just apologized if anyone had managed to read his list of names. the man is a disgrace. he should have been sacked.

hes been at it for ages....he also stirred the whole imogen affair story daily, whilst the revolting imogen milked it for sympathy and money? sympathy and money for what? having an affair then trying to entrap the footballer with paparazzi then trying to sell her story and make as much dosh as possible form it....schofield got her on with max clifford a few times, handing her handkercheifs and giving her filth even more airtime, the whole interview was biased in her favour, so much so they even gave her a job on the show....
meanwhile the footballer had an injunction which the judge rightly gave him, to prevent imogen making money from the alleged affair....I 100% agree with the judgement, as footballer , whether he had an affair or not, was not attempting to profiteer from the scandal, hes always been profoundly private and never given 1 personal interview...she was simply profiteering from the kiss and tell scandal...the judge was right and despite the disgusting gossip mongers of twitter, he was right to fight for privacy. yes partly it was to save his own ego, partly to save his family more embarassment, but also to stop imogen milking all the sordid details for money for years ahead.
the whole this morning show is sordid trash tv, endless gutter press and gossip mongers, tabloid press, the likes of clifford and carole malone, witch hunts, endless paedophile chaisng then just scantily clad people in underwear, just utterly tacky and dangerous inappropriate daytime tv

Lord McAlpine will seek a larger payout from ITV than the £185,000 he received over his libel claim against the BBC, his lawyers have confirmed.
They contacted ITV after presenter Phillip Schofield handed the prime minister a list of alleged abusers live on the This Morning show on 8 November.
An ITV spokesman said: "We have received correspondence from Lord McAlpine's representatives and we will be responding in due course."
Will he go for the full mill or more ?

Conservative peer Lord McAlpine has reached a £125,000 settlement with ITV and Phillip Schofield.
It is in relation to a This Morning programme broadcast in November during which the presenter handed the prime minister a list of names of alleged abusers he had found on the internet.
This followed a Newsnight investigation which led to the peer being wrongly accused of child abuse.
His solicitor, Andrew Reid, told the BBC his client was "pleased" with the size of the ITV settlement, which he described as "pragmatic".
"We accepted the legal argument that the Newsnight programme had effectively set the pot - it was already boiling at that point.
"The Schofield stunt added fuel to the fire that was already there and we had to take that into account," he said.
Mr Reid confirmed that legal action will now be taken against other parties, such as newspapers and high-profile users of the social-networking site Twitter.
Among them is Sally Bercow, wife of the speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow, whose legal team has been in touch with Mr Reid.
Lord McAlpine has asked those who linked him to child abuse allegations on Twitter and other social networks to apologise formally and pay a "sensible and modest amount", which he plans to donate to BBC Children in Need.
Mr Reid added that they had spoken to "senior officers" at Scotland Yard to discuss criminal behaviour on Twitter.
"There are a hard core of people who are re-tweeting and who are basically acting maliciously. This is an offence."
He added, however, that it was up to the police to decide whether to investigate further.
