Which is better? Thinking of getting one!!

Nikon is 24 mp but only a 3m zoom

Canon is 18 mp but has a 75m zoom

Which shall i choose?

And which is overall the better make?

I've spoken to an adviser, They said there really isn't much between them, it comes down to personal preference, but she said Canon edges the lead.
