View Full Version : Just wondering...

There is always mention from some members about just having one chat thread instead of two.

There are pros and cons for both sides of the argument, I'd just like to see what the majority of the forum feels is better. I'm not going to enforce anything, it's just to see the main concensus.

It would be hell

Different people have different interests, you can't just expect everyone to post in one thread and get along

Get rid of them both and have people interacting properly again.

We post in each other's threads sometimes and it works but overall no, it'd be terrible and would cause so many arguments. I don't even dislike any of them but with such different interests it would never work

I think having two is ideal, however I still feel some get left out, or feel too intimidated to join in with one of the existing chat threads.

There are groups that get on and kinda chat exclusively in one thread, and others that chat in both. So there is no real boundary between them, and to my knowledge everyone gets on with everyone else in the other thread.

I feel that having just the one chat thread would cause arguments and kinda feuds, it would seem like there is a lack of space on the forum.

I think the whole intimidation thing is incredibly overplayed, sure someone can post and it just gets lost in the commotion and ignored but I don't think anyone in either thread doesn't want new people to post in the thread..afterall, if you don't like them, no one is forcing you to look in them/post in them

even with two thread's member's only post between the same old faces.

Why do people want no chat threads? Every thread would turn into a mini chat thread and go off-topic and there'd be no way of saying "take it to the chat threads" or anything

See it's alright for people that don't post in them much to suggest this but it wouldn't be fair tbh, a lot of members like to just chat away about their lives, interests and general day to day things and they are able to do that in those threads, if there was no chat threads and members created a new thread for each thing they wanted to discuss the moaning would start about too much pointless threads being made.

Imagine Scott creating a thread for every old/new music artist he found or every gif he wanted an excuse to use? thats just one example off the top of my head.

I doubt it would, I'm sure people could restrain themselves to some extent. There's PM's and wall posts for chatting.

That's just a load of assumptions though. Don't knock it until you've tried it :pipe: There's threads for what most people talk about in there anyway. The examples being music threads and sports threads.

Benjamin

We couldn't implement no chat threads, a thread would just end up being adopted as one.

But that's only good for one-on-one, there isn't a better system for group talking and stuff. Plus the forum would feel boring without a place to just say what I'm doing or something LOL

InOne
08-12-2012, 10:14 PM
You couldn't have one either because it wouldn't exactly be against the rules for someone to just start a new one.

MTVN
08-12-2012, 10:14 PM
Yeah people just want to be able to generally chat about anything they feel like and not be restricted to a specific topic or subject, wall posts and PM's only cater to one-on-one conversations

There's social groups too. I'm sure you could let people know about you daily life in them, or you could even write a blog :pipe:

When did I say they were having a bad effect on the forum? I just think a trial period would be interesting. Especially after these dodgy thread wars that seem to be going on.

Sorry, my mistake I thought thats what you were meaning with your posts in here.

I don't think it would be fair to remove them for no reason when there is members that enjoy posting in them daily.

I don't come here much.. so I don't really get into the chat threads.. I don't feel any more or any less comfortable/welcome in either of them though and nobody really knows me..

I voted for one, cos it's easier for newbies to find 'the chat thread' rather than wondering which one to chat in.

But in that case, pretty much what everyone else said 2 is ideal.
