The Justice Collective have overtaken James Arthur in the race for this year's Christmas number one.
The Hillsborough charity single 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' is now 3,400 copies ahead of the X Factor champion's winner's single 'Impossible'.
This comes just 24 hours after Arthur was leading the chart by 3,000 copies in the first midweek update yesterday (December 18).
"This really is the closest No.1 battle we can remember - even closer than the legendary 2009 battle between Rage Against the Machine and Joe McElderry," said Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot.
"The poll concludes at midnight on Saturday night [December 22], so there is a long way to go yet - but this one looks like going down to the wire."
Arthur has currently shifted 106,300 copies of 'Impossible' this week, while The Justice Collective are ahead with sales of 109,700.
The Justice Collective are made up of a group of musicians including Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Melanie C.

Who do you think will get the coveted Christmas no. 1 spot? One of the above, or do you think that a late comer could become a contender?

Bound to be the Liverpool anthem, the news today will give it a further boost, if not then the 1.00 fish man will do nicely. James can sod off.

The Justice Collective are currently 23,000 copies ahead of its nearest rival, which is X Factor champion James Arthur and his winner's single 'Impossible'.
"The momentum is in favour of the Justice Collective, who now have a decent lead, having sold around 15% more than James Arthur at this point," said The Official Charts Company's managing director Martin Talbot.
"But they have opened up their lead in just two days - it could easily be closed over the next two days."
He added: "The Justice Collective are favourites right now - but their lead is not unbridgeable by any means. With two days of sales left to be counted, it is all to play for."

There are far worse atrocities going on in the world right now than something which happened almost 25 years ago. And there have been other football stadium disasters too.
Locke.

In short.. It happened 25 years ago, was covered up by our own police forces and politicians, and the truth did not come out until this year after 25 years of fighting against the lies. Now that what really happened has been revealed there are plenty of court cases and fees to be paid for, money from this single will do that. And yes there have been other footballing disasters but not that have been covered up like this.
If you can't see the reasoning in this being released and more people buying it than a ****ty Rihanna single then I'm not sure what's going on really

Well I stand behind my original point that it's not chart positions which matter it's money raised. An actual artist should get the #1.

Pretty sure if xmas number one was so important to him, his song would have been released THIS week, not last.
Last week his sold nearly 500k copies, this week the hillsborough song sold like 270k, and james sold 224k. So pretty sure if it had been released this week it would have absolutely trounced the justice collective tbh.
BTW, does anyone else think He aint heavy is a really odd song choice for the charity it supports?
