If you ever visit Prague, the famous Nationale-Nederlanden building, nicknamed Dancing House (Tančící dům) or “Fred and Ginger,” is hard to miss. It sits in the middle of a densely built section of Prague, surrounded by other structures that are nearly all the city’s standard Baroque or Art Nouveau styles.
It was designed by Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić and Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot of great historical significance. Its site was the location of a house that was destroyed by the U.S. bombing of Prague in 1945 during World War II. The plot and structure lay decrepit until 1960 when the area was cleared.
The building’s deconstructivist dancing shape is supported by 99 concrete panels, each a different shape and dimension. On the top of the building is a large twisted structure of metal nicknamed Medusa.

..Prague is somewhere I've always wanted to visit..I love the curves of the building, it's quite sensuous, especially with it's name 'Fred and Ginger'..if I do ever go, I'll make sure I go and visit...(you probably can't really miss it lol..)..it's certainly very striking...

No problem, I must have spent hours on that website searching through all the houses. It's like watching thousands of grand designs episodes but cut straight to the ending with all the boring building bits removed.

..I'm a huge Grand Designs fan, Richard..I like the building part as well and seeing it all grow and especially when it all goes wrong as well..some of them are so hugely over budget, but once you start something like that, then I guess you can't really stop as you've already invested everything so it has to work out..I think my dream would be to have a 'grand design' in France out in the country with a vineyard and just not much else..I love looking through pics of amazing houses as well...

Having watched so many episodes i've become obsessed with the idea of building my own 'grand design' too. I can't imagine it ever being possible though, the price of land alone here in the UK is ridiculous. No idea how anyone manages to afford it, you'd have to be mega rich. I like your idea though, and considering how cheap you can buy some property over in France it would probably be the most reasonable option. :amazed:
I'd better get saving my pocket money... :p

..haha, yeah you might need to ask for an increase in that pocket money..land is a silly price here and then the cost of the build is a lot as well unless you can do most of it yourself..I have some friends who converted an old barn, which they mostly did themselves or with the help of family/friends so the cost was quite low and it was amazing when it was finished..they were just a young couple starting off and sold it for around 4 times what it cost them and they won't ever have to have a mortgage again because of that, but not everyone can do that..France is a good option though because the land is much cheaper or there are so many old houses and chateaus to renovate and I watched a Grand Design last week where a couple built an eco house and apparently you don't have the same planning regulations as here..if it falls down then that's your problem...LOL, I love the French.....

Me too, I always feel like I was born in the wrong country! That being said, trying to learn the language for my gcse was a nightmare so maybe it's a good job that I was... :suspect:
My two favourite countries are France and Japan, i'd happily pack up and move to either if there wasn't the obvious language barrier (especially in japan, they don't even use the alphabet! they use symbols! :conf2:). I was in Paris last week and was so sad when we left that I spent the entirety of the next day in bed watching 'Midnight in Paris' on repeat. :joker:

Me too, I always feel like I was born in the wrong country! That being said, trying to learn the language for my gcse was a nightmare so maybe it's a good job that I was... :suspect:
My two favourite countries are France and Japan, i'd happily pack up and move to either if there wasn't the obvious language barrier (especially in japan, they don't even use the alphabet! they use symbols! :conf2:). I was in Paris last week and was so sad when we left that I spent the entirety of the next day in bed watching 'Midnight in Paris' on repeat. :joker:
..aww, I love France as well Richard..how lucky that you've just got back from Paris..I'm not the best at languages either but I think in general we're not really good at languages in this country compared to other Europeans..I'm fascinated by Japan as well and think it would be an amazing place to visit although I'm not great at flying, especially long haul flights, so I don't know if I would ever actually get there..have you been to Japan..?...

..great pics but this is my favourite..I much prefer wood to concrete, I'd love to have the talent to go chop a tree down and build something lol...

My friend was meant to be travelling the west coast of America and stay in a treehouse hostel in California. She had to cancel the trip but she showed me the pictures of the accommodation, it was really cool :amazed:!

..I don't know what it is about the idea of a tree house that's so inviting, I think maybe it conjures up images of 'perfect childhood'..Swiss Family Robinson sort of thing, it really captures the imagination..but in reality I probably wouldn't go in one because I have a phobia of heights..it's lovely to 'dream them' though....

I like the sofas that are made up of different fabrics, I'd quite like that in my own house one day... I'd have a very bright and colourful house with lots of different things to look at, kind of the opposite of what my mum and dad like... maybe that'll change over time.

..yeah, I do like that as well, I would have that in a room in my house although I don't usually like a lot of colour..I think maybe I would get fed up with is quite quickly though and want to be more neutral again...I think you do go through phases in what you like, I guess it's like a lot of things..my sons always said they would have a really colourful home, the exact opposite of me, but now they prefer more muted colours again..also, if you have a partner, their influence comes into it as well...
..I do have some colour in my house, but they're kind of accent colours because I prefer walls etc and larger bits of furniture to be very neutral..it makes it easier to change it all as well, when you do feel like a change...

You can have the sofa :amazed: Dezzy can have the kitchen floor, with one pillow, but no duvet.

..aww poor Dezzy....but he probably won't mind because he'll eat all your food in your fridge through the night and especially the Ben and Jerry's..if you put a Playstation/Xbox in there as well, it would probably be his dream room..:amazed:...

I'd throw in a Kate Bush CD too and hopefully catch the whole thing on my security cameras so I can watch him sing Wuthering Heights while he's all hyper on ice cream :amazed:

...haha, I told you not to tell anyone Zee, I'll have to rethink my plans now...for these ones I just googled homes with a view, for me the view would be just as important in my perfect house...

No, but I really want to. I think it'll have to be a trip I make by myself one day when i'm older! I love the look of the countryside over there with all the colourful plants and trees and the buildings with the giant curved triangular roofs. I will make it there one day!!

..you don't really need to have great drawing skills Richard, it's more about detail and measurements but the drawing skills you need you would learn at uni anyway ..if it's something you're really interested in and would like to do then don't think that you wouldn't be able to..maybe have a look at what you would need to study it..?....

I've searched through all the uni's websites that offer it but they all want an A in A level art and/or a portfolio of art from you. I don't think my stick men and little square houses would impress them very much. :(

..is it something that you would really like to do Richard..?..I'll google some stuff and see if there's any other way you can do it, there's sometimes other ways to achieve these things...maybe you could do it through college..?...I'll see what information I can find, ok...

I'm sure you'd be able to find something. I'm doing Graphic Design and although A Levels were desirable they weren't essential.
We needed a small portfolio of work to show the tutors but other than that they were very open to all ages and backgrounds if you could show them you had a passion for it.

I've always had two ideal dream jobs: an architect or a meteorologist. I've looked at the requirements for both though and don't see how it would be possible for me to do either, because my worst subjects are the requirements for both. Thanks for googling though :amazed:

...yeah my son did landscape architecture and although he did art, it wasn't one of his strongest subjects because it's more about detail and scale, isn't it..the designing/drawing is all part of the course anyway..I was always fascinated to watch him do a design, these things always seem so effortless to people who know how to do them but I guess that's the way with everything...do you enjoy Graphic Design..?..
