People seem to do that when they're trying to make the point of how deeply affected by they are by something. It's really annoying, almost breathing in your face.

he thinks they dont like him. so he just wanted to be clear he doesn't care if he goes and isnt a threat to them cause its just a game.

..I agree Jords it didn't come across as aggressive at all..Italians are very expressive when they speak..the expression is part of the language...
