View Full Version : Paula gets warning

MODEL Paula Hamilton has been read the riot act after making a Nazi jibe about Celebrity Big Brother.

She was hauled into the Diary Room and given a dressing-down in the early hours yesterday.

Reformed drug addict Paula, 51, got into hot water by saying the CBB basement was like World War Two Nazi Germany’s Auschwitz concentration camp.

But she was not the only housemate to get a warning over offensive comments.

American reality telly babe Heidi Montag, 26, was also reprimanded following a racist comment about former Coronation Street star Sam Robertson, 27.

She told him he “looked like a Rasta and not to look so dirty”. Both women were given a stern talking-to by bosses who told them their remarks were “unacceptable” and “potentially offensive”.

A show insider said: “They were both reminded how things they say could be potentially offensive to others in the house or those watching at home.

“People often forget the cameras are on them recording everything they say, so it was a gentle reminder to behave.

“Paula was OK about it but Heidi got a little bit upset. I don’t think she’s used to getting told off.”

Sheepish Paula later admitted to X Factor star Rylan Clark, 24, that she had been given the first telling-off of the series.

The pair were smoking in the garden when she told him: “I said a word and I was told off for it. But I called my school that!”

Rylan asked: “What? A sh*thole?”

Shaking her head, Paula told him: “No, Auschwitz.”

A volunteer at the Holocaust Survivors’ Centre in Hendon, north London, told the Daily Star: “It’s an outrageous thing to say. It’s a terrible insult to people who went through so much suffering. It’s disgusting.”

And Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner said: “Comments like this can only trivialise the horrors of the Holocaust.”

is comparing something bad to something really bad...really offensive? i think we know the bb house isnt as bad as auschwitz, we're not going to get confused.

Ammi
07-01-2013, 05:43 AM
..I know the comment was ridiculous from the point of view of the comparison..but it sounds as though it was an offhand comment that wasn't meant to be taken literally..something most people have done..but I'm sure it'll be built up to something else just for the controversy...

I still have relatives alive with concentration camp tattoos up their arms. It's not like she's been thrown out for the comment, which would have been OTT, but I think BB were right to pull her up on it.

She deserved to be told off, but I hate the way that they had to go to contact the holocaust survivors centre, for comment.

Create controversy, then create the outrage to keep it going.

Livia
07-01-2013, 10:27 AM
Yes, that's true. It's not like the Centre would say, oh it doesn't matter, don't worry about it. But a stupid, thoughtless thing to say.

This. It was an insensitive thing to day on her part, and she obviously deserved to be warned about it, but it should end there to avoid turning it into a media circus!

flamingGalah!

..I think it is offensive but I'm going to assume that she said it without putting thought into it, so I agree it was right to give her a warning and point that out to her, so she realises the stupidity of what she said..but I also think the media etc should accept it wasn't said with intent..and not sensationalise it to the point that she gets hatred for it....

Well I think both are just as ridiculous. It's like this country has just forgotten all about context when it comes to this kind of stuff. And getting a spokesperson from the holocaust survivors centre is just pathetic. Creating controversy from something which shouldn't be controversial. Yes, BB have the right to give her a tap on the wrist, but that's as far as it should go.

In my view, it's a bit like someone saying 'it's bloody freezing out here, I feel like I'm going to catch hypothermia'. Of course they aren't going to, and they aren't meaning to offend anyone either. It's just a rushed, stupid comment which wasn't meant to cause harm.

..I do respect you don't have the same views on this Jake..I presume you have no Jewish ancestors, you may feel differently if you did..but you have to respect that other people have strong feelings about what she said and for very good reason..I do agree that I don't believe it was said with any intent and was just a thoughtless thing to say without realising how disrespectful or offensive it was..but it doesn't make it any less said..once it's out there. it's out there..isn't that how it goes...so BBs action were appropriate and having someone from the centre to explain things will make her think more carefully next time, for her own sake as well as I'm sure she doesn't want to be offensive....but now that it's done, I hope the media let it go as well and don't try to make her a figure of hatred.....

Actually I do have Jewish ancestors, my Grandad's Jewish :). I agree that my first comment was stupid (about it being similar to Rylan farting), and I take that back. But, as you said, you can tell that it was said with no intent.. why would she go out of her way to offend a religious group? And yes, BB had a right to give her a telling off, but I don't think that the centre should have been involved... In my view, once that starts, so does the rest of the witch hunt. And the last bit of your post is exactly why I think that the group shouldn't have been involved with a statement.

Jesus.

Yeah, I'm sure she meant in a fairly flippant, inoffensive way, but BB are not out of order to tell her to be more careful.

The stupidity comes from contacting the survivors group for comment.

It's not really a massive issue.

..yeah, I agree Jake, it doesn't merit a witchhunt or any sort of abuse from any member of the public, but I don't think that the involvement of the Centre would be the thing which created it..it would be the whole media attitude towards it..and sensationalising what I don't believe had any intent....

Oh no, but it's more of the attitude in the statement. They make fully clear that they are offended and it was stupid of Paula, but unlike us, they haven't really showed that they have put it in to context. Therefore I believe it would be easy for many to jump on their bandwagon, if you get me?
